Eastern Connecticut State University is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the Coordinator of the Intercultural Center position. Eastern is Connecticut’s Public Liberal Arts University and is located in Willimantic, Connecticut which is 1.5 hours from Boston and 2 hours from New York City.  Eastern is one of four universities in the Connecticut State College and University System (CSCU). The position also offers substantial health and retirement benefits.

POSITION SUMMARY: 
Under the supervision of the Vice-President for Student Affairs or designee, the incumbent is responsible for managing the Arthur L. Johnson Intercultural Center, supporting and retaining underrepresented student populations, and developing and overseeing programming efforts that promote a welcoming environment and positive experience for students from diverse backgrounds and nationalities.   Specific activities include (a) needs assessment, (b) collaboration with various university departments as well as external community organizations to plan and implement collaborative programs and events, (c) promotion and marketing of activities, and (d) program evaluations.


RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Manages the operations and programming of the Intercultural Center and acts as a liaison to other campus offices. 
  2. Provides services, resources, and initiatives to support underrepresented students with the successful transition to, matriculation at, and graduation from the University.
  3. Delivers individual assistance and/or group intervention to underrepresented students to strengthen personal achievement and academic success.
  4. Serves as resource for campus administration, administrative/academic department heads, and student organizations on issues of diversity, inclusion, and campus climate.
  5. Coordinates the development and implementation of educational, cultural, and social programs that enhance an understanding of diversity and foster a campus climate that recognizes and demonstrates mutual respect. 
  6. Works collaboratively with the Office of Student Activities and other Departments to advance and implement leadership training programs and related resources for underrepresented students.
  7. Plans and carries out social, cultural, and educational programs with particular attention to the needs of underrepresented student populations.
  8. Coordinates with various University Departments and external sources to identify or design and offer retention initiatives, including implementation of support programs specifically dedicated to promoting students’ personal and academic success.
  9. Develops, organizes, and serves as a resource to a Multicultural Student Advisory Board, and an Advisory Board comprised of staff and faculty. 
  10. Trains student leaders on diversity related topics such as climate and inclusion, and the application of those topics to their organizational mission, leadership development, careers, and campus roles.
  11. Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates interns, student workers, and volunteers who assist with administrative, organizational and program implementation.
  12. Partners with faculty, administration, alumni groups, and students to develop programs (lectures, discussions, film series, etc.) which educate and support all students about the importance of diversity and inclusion.
  13. Prepares reports in relation to program goals, objectives, and assessment initiatives. 
  14. Develops and manages the budget and oversees expenditures of the Intercultural Center and its activities.
  15. Performs other duties as assigned which do not alter the overall level of responsibility of the position.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s Degree required in Student Personnel, Counseling, Higher Education, or related field.  Four years of experience in the student affairs field related to multicultural programming and considerable knowledge and experience regarding the concerns of underrepresented populations; demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, and faculty in promoting diversity and inclusivity initiatives; understanding of social identity development, and the impact of multiple identities is preferred.  Excellent presentation, training, counseling, communication, and programming skills and a commitment to academic and inclusivity excellence are essential.
