Position Summary
The Director of Clinical Education is responsible for the development, implementation, management and renewal of affiliation agreements with all agencies providing clinical experiences for students. The Director of Clinical Education is responsible for communicating the clinical site requirements to the Directors of Nursing to include required faculty orientation, facility documentation and number of students allowed on site. The Director of Clinical Education will function as the liaison between the University and the clinical sites. This responsibility includes frequent contact with the education coordinators and site supervisors at the clinical facility. The Director of Clinical Education will ensure that Federal, State and Accrediting agencies’ regulations are met in the clinical practice area by all faculty and students.
Educational Delivery
- Facilitates the student’s clinical experience.
- Works cohesively with the Directors of Nursing to maintain required program documentation, to include demonstrating clinical experiences for students align with clinical objectives for each course, delivery of clinical hours.
- Works closely with the Directors of Nursing and clinical faculty to resolve student issues. - Develops and implements a process for clinical site contracting that ensures successful and long-term working relationships with facilities.
- Evaluates prospective clinical sites for the availability of, and appropriateness for, student clinical experiences.
- Develops relationships, secures contracts and serves as a liaison to the hospitals, home health agencies, skilled and intermediate care nursing facilities, adult day care, and child day care sites.
- Evaluates all clinical sites currently utilized each term and as needed to ensure positive relationships.
- Is knowledgeable of each facility’s orientation process, policies and procedures.
- Conducts scheduled and unscheduled visits on weekdays, evenings and weekends at clinical sites for evaluation of clinical site, review of patient care assignments, and adherence to policies and procedures.
- Assists Directors of Nursing with evaluating faculty and students on clinical rotation.
- Is knowledgeable about and complies with University policies and procedures.
- Meets weekly with the Directors of Nursing and Campus President to plan for student’s clinical site needs.
- Demonstrates professionalism at all times.
Student Services
- Assists with and attends pinning and graduation ceremonies, as well as other nursing program and campus events.
- Reviews student policies and handbook for appropriateness and makes recommendations to the Directors of Nursing as needed. Budgeting
- Makes recommendations to the Directors of Nursing for items to include in the budget.
Professional Development
- Maintains professional qualifications through participation in University training, continuing education programs and academic courses.
Education/Licensure/Experience
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required, Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred.
- Current, unencumbered Virginia RN license required.
- Five years of experience in an acute care setting required.
- Two years of experience as a Nurse Manager or supervisor preferred.
- Previous experience contracting a plus.

- Strong skills in priority setting, multi-tasking, and organization.
- Strong communication skills both verbal and in writing.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with all levels of management, faculty and students.
- Excellent computer skills.
