Edgewater Technical Associates is seeking qualified candidates for an Accountant 1 opportunity in Los Alamos, NM to support the Los Alamos National Laboratory.

Clearance: No clearance is required for this position.

Duration: Short-term assignment (4 months)

Work Location: This position will be located in Los Alamos, NM with the potential for The work location for this position is telework and is located in Los Alamos. Telework is defined as working from offsite but within 2 hours ground commute of this location. Reporting onsite may be periodically necessary. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.

FROM INTAKE CALL: Telework/Hybrid SF or LA 2 days/month or more at the manager’s request

The Controller Division Accounting group is seeking to fill an Accountant 1 position. The Controller group provides support services on the purchase of products and services to Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL).

The selected candidate will report to the Controller Disbursements (CNTL-DISB) Group Team Leader and will support the group mission by; reviewing and processing subcontractor invoices to ensure costs are paid in accordance with the subcontract requirements of moderate complexity; will provide invoice review services that include verification that costs are accurate, properly supported and otherwise allowable; will communicate with subcontractors, subcontract specialists, project managers and technical requesters to discuss/resolve invoice and payment issues.

Minimum Job Requirements

Accounting Experience

Demonstrated experience working with contracts and subcontracts processes and requirements; demonstrated knowledge of various contract types including time and materials, labor hours and cost reimbursement; knowledge in identifying performance deficiencies and recommending strategies, procedures, and implementing, improving and enhancing functionality; Knowledge and experience in accounting, accounts payable bookkeeping or similar; Knowledge of the application of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP); interpretation and application of financial policies and procedures and performing self-assessments; Knowledge of governmental financial accounting, in accordance to federal laws governing accounting procedures and systems.

Knowledge and experience researching, gathering, analyzing data, summarizing results, resolving problems and issues both independently and as a team member.

Customer Service, Organization, Teamwork and Dependability

Demonstrated ability to work independently while maintaining excellent organization and prioritization with proven ability to follow through completion on multiple tasks, often under strict deadlines, frequent interruptions, and changing priorities; Demonstrated ability in providing strong customer service and interpersonal skills; proven ability in effectively working within a team environment and interacting and networking with all levels of internal and external personnel and customers.

Communication

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Technology

Demonstrated proficient use of computer software applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.).

Education/Experience

  • Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field and 2 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
  • or 4 years of experience in lieu of an Associate degree.
  • or 6 years of experience in lieu of a Bachelor degree.

Desired Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university
  • Experience working with contracts and subcontracts processes and requirements.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of various contract types including time and materials, labor hours, and cost reimbursement.
  • Knowledge of governmental financial accounting, in accordance with federal laws governing accounting procedures and systems.
