About the Position
The job of Bus Monitor is done for the purpose/s of assisting special education students while they are being transported to and from school; and providing some custodial work in the Transportation area.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Highschool GED
Experience
- 1 year of experience working with kids
Other Requirements
- Must have a Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card prior to processing
ESSENTIAL JOB TASKS
- Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities
- Assists special education students for the purpose of providing for special needs during transport, safe loading and unloading from buses including both emergency situations and normal transport
- Assists with cleaning the bus for the purpose of maintaining buses in safe and sanitary condition
- Ensures teachers or aides are present to escort special education students to classrooms for the purpose of ensuring their safe arrival at school
- Instructs special education students for the purpose of enforcing rules and regulations
- Monitors students (e.g. unruly, disruptive, spitting, hitting, abusive language, kicking, etc.) for the purpose of preventing distraction to the driver or injury to themselves or other students/passengers
- Reports observations and incidents (e.g. discipline, accidents, inappropriate social behavior, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to appropriate personnel
- Secures students and/or equipment with restraints, tie downs (e.g. wheelchairs, seat belts, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the safety and welfare of students
- Assists other personnel for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities
- Scope of Contacts - Level 1 The important job contacts are with peers in the immediate work group and immediate supervisor
- Occasional contact with individuals outside the organization may occur
- Performance Environment - Level A Changes in environments, work pressure, disturbances of work flow, and irregularities in work schedule are infrequent
- Work may be performed in cramped or awkward positions
- occasional exposure to safety hazards, disease, or contamination results in chance for lost-time accidents
- Occasional exposure to noise, temperature extremes, etc
- May be required to administer medication to students in case of emergency such as seizures, etc
- Level of Accountability -Level B Responsible for producing journey-level work output on an independent basis subject to supervisory direction and review

Working Conditions
Work primarily occurs in a school bus setting. Must be able to lift, carry, push and pull up to 105 pounds.
