POSITION OVERVIEW
About the Position
The job of the Paraprofessional Assistant is done for the purpose of assisting in the supervision and instruction of regular or special needs students under the supervision of a teacher in a general/special education classroom; observing and documenting student progress; implementing plan for instruction; and providing clerical support to teacher.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent
Experience
- Experience in assisting/supervising children.
Other Requirements
- Must possess have the ability to obtain a valid IVP fingerprint clearance card by the time of hire.
Preferred
- 60 post-secondary education hours in education or a closely related field.
ESSENTIAL JOB TASKS
- Assists students, individually or in small groups with lesson assignments (e.g. Reading stories, listening to students reading, facilitating activities, motor perception programs, colors, number charts, etc.) For the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts and reaching their academic goals and potential.
- Implements instructional programs and lesson plans for the purpose of assisting the teacher in improving students’ academic success through a defined course of study.
- Maintains classroom equipment, work area, student’s files/records (e.g. copying instructional materials for the purpose of ensuring the availability of items and/or providing reliable information.
- Monitors individual and/or group of students in a variety of settings (e.g. classroom, playground, cafeteria, library etc.) For the purpose of providing a safe and positive environment.
- Performs general record keeping and clerical functions (may be in a workroom setting) for the purpose of supporting the teacher and/or providing necessary records/materials.
- Promotes good habits for the purpose of improving the quality of student’s outcome and encouraging student development.
Working Conditions
Work primarily occurs in a classroom setting. Considerable repetitive computer functions. Constant interruptions in a high-volume work environment. Work is performed with time pressures and requires handling multiple tasks, frequently changing tasks and interruptions. Extensive public contact via telephone, email and in person. Work requires the ability to remain in a sitting position for 50% of the time, 25% walking and 25% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
