Paid Companion (non-medical) Winona County
Nature of the work: Elder Network is currently hiring part-time companions in Winona County, willingness to travel to St. Charles is preferred to assist seniors 55 and better with non-medical tasks in their homes such as meal preparation, shopping, transportation to appointments and light housework and socialization. Elder Network does not provide hands-on care such as bathing, dressing etc. Applicants must be able to provide positive client interaction, be available 4 or more hours per week, and have reliable transportation and a valid drivers license. Examples of work: (Illustrative Only)
- Provides good communication to clients and supervisors on work being done, schedule etc.
- Is dependable and punctual to client appointments and completes paperwork to meet deadlines.
- Accurately documents and maintains services provided and client information.
- Engages the client in social activities.
- Help with meal preparation, cooking and cleaning up afterwards
- Light housekeeping: laundry, change bed linens, dishes, wipe down kitchen surfaces, organizing closets, cupboards, sweeping, empty trash, etc.
- Running errands with or for client.
- Assists with shopping duties; groceries, etc.
- Transport client to medical and personal appointments.
- Provide social and emotional support to the client and family
- Observes and reports any emotional or physical changes in client to supervisor.
- Reliable Transportation and a Valid Drivers License.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills Required cont.:
- Time management skill
- Comfortable working with older adults
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and meaningful relationships with agency staff members, and clients.
- Ability to apply previously acquired knowledge and skills to new situations
- Ability to use supervision and guidance
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to make independent decision
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and problem solve in a timely manner to adapt to unexpected needs or changes in plans
Minimum Qualifications of Education and Experience:
- Prefer experience with older adults
- Ability to read, write and speak English.
