Director of Pediatric Cardiac Acute Care Unit

Emory
Atlanta, GA Full Time
POSTED ON 11/30/2024
AVAILABLE BEFORE 11/25/2025

Overview

Emory University is a leading research university that fosters excellence and attracts world-class talent to innovate today and prepare leaders for the future. We welcome candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of our academic community.

Description

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled physician to lead our nation's largest inpatient pediatric cardiology unit. As the director, you will be responsible for managing a diverse range of cardiac disease states, including acute and chronic conditions in pediatric patients. This will involve overseeing the care of medical patients with cardiovascular diseases, as well as pre-operative and post-operative pediatric cardiac surgical patients.

In addition to providing clinical care, you will play a vital role in establishing a strategic plan for our acute care unit. This will involve collaborating with other services, such as cardiac surgery, nursing, and respiratory therapy, to ensure the highest quality of care for our patients. We are looking for someone with a strong foundation in quality improvement and outcomes science, as this will be essential in driving continuous improvement in our unit.

As the director, you will also have the opportunity to mentor junior faculty and supervise a medical team of trainees, including pediatric residents and pediatric cardiology fellows. Your leadership skills will be crucial in guiding and developing these individuals, as well as advanced practice providers.

This position will require expertise in managing a high acuity non-intensive care unit, where you will be responsible for delivering various therapies, including vasoactive infusions, mechanical support, and noninvasive respiratory support. Experience with heated high flow nasal cannula initiation and titration is preferred.

Your responsibilities will encompass all aspects of patient care, from admission to ongoing diagnostic and therapeutic management, to discharging a wide spectrum of patients. You will need to have a deep understanding of the indications for specific testing modalities, as well as the ability to interpret and effectively communicate results to families and referring physicians.

As part of our larger team of hospital-based providers, you will collaborate closely with cardiac surgeons, cardiac intensivists, cardiac catheterization specialists, and cardiac imaging specialists. Your expertise and contribution will be instrumental in providing comprehensive care to our patients.

This position also includes inpatient consultative services, as well as an outpatient continuity clinic. You will have the opportunity to make a lasting impact on the lives of our patients, both within the hospital setting and in the community.

You will hold an appointment in the Department of Pediatrics at Emory University School of Medicine, further enhancing your professional development and academic opportunities.

We are seeking a talented and dedicated physician who is passionate about pediatric cardiology and driven to deliver the highest standard of care. If you are ready to take on a leadership role in a dynamic and challenging environment, we invite you to apply for this position.
