SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The purpose of this job is inspect, repair, and conduct preventative maintenance on all fleet and company vehicles.
SPECIFIC DUTIES, ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
- Perform preventative maintenance on company vehicles such as fluid changes, lubrications, safety inspections, and brake repairs such as turning rotors, replacing calipers as well as brake pads.
- Perform general maintenance such as body repairs, grill work, bumper repairs, flat repair, and the mount and balance of tires.
- Examine vehicle to determine if any additional safety or repair work is needed.
- Perform required maintenance and service according to equipment manuals and work orders.
- Perform other duties as assigned or needed.
Requirements
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Minimum 1 year as a vehicle mechanic
- Must possess a valid Driver License
- Knowledge of methods, techniques and procedures involved in maintenance repairs and replacement.
- Knowledge of an automated Fleet Management Information System.
- Knowledge of safety practices and techniques in mechanics as well as knowledge of diesel and gas engine mechanics.
- Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.

- Complete all work in a safe manner and follow all safety requirements consistent with supporting the company’s TRIR goals
- Follow all environmental requirements consistent with supporting the company’s environmental performance goals
- Complete, and actively participate in all of the company’s EHS training requirements
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to maneuver to all areas of a shop, warehouse, or plant.
- Must be able to lift up to 70 pounds and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Must have the manual dexterity and coordination to operate hand tools and mechanical tools such as a wench.
- Must be able to work at a fast pace.
- Must be able to tolerate changing priorities, and complete assignments despite frequent interruptions.
- Must be able to respond to visual and aural cues.
- Must be able to drive a one ton pick-up truck.
- Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work environment is typically considered within a Smiths location during normal or extended business hours. While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock.
