What are the responsibilities and job description for the Plant Operator position at Energy Systems Group?
ENERGY SYSTEMS GROUP® is looking for a Plant Operator to join our Operation Services team at our Detroit Arsenal Facility located in Warren, Michigan. This position is on site.
The Plant Operator performs operations, maintenance, and repair of systems and buildings at company and customer sites ensuring reliable, efficient, and cost-effective long-term operation. These systems provide the establishment with services such as heating, cooling, compressed air, steam, hot water, and/or electricity.
The essential functions of the position include:
- Duties as Plant Operator involve servicing boilers, chemical testing, performing PMs, routine maintenance, and repairs
- Diagnose and repair various types of HVAC systems
- Diagnose and repair various types of Steam systems
- Learn and understand basic programming for Tridium Controls System
- Perform routine checks and maintenance on backup generators
- Read and understand engineering drawings, electrical drawings and mechanical drawings
- Perform basic inspections and testing on company installed equipment
- communicate with supervisors/management as to job progress and issues of assigned work
- Observe and interpret readings on gauges, meters and charts which register various aspects of system operation
- Adjust controls to ensure safe and efficient operation of the system and to meet demands for the service provided
- Record and log various aspects of the system's operation
- Keep the boilers and auxiliary equipment of the system in good working order
- Treat water systems (boiler, chilled water, condensing water, etc.) with chemicals and analyze for such things as acidity, causticity, and alkalinity
- Draw fluid samples (oils, lubricants, fuel, etc.) from equipment and perform tests or deliver for testing by others
- Perform diagnostic tests and measurements on equipment
- Perform repair response service as directed by Facilities Manager
- Complete regular technical and safety training
- Ability to work safely from ladders, elevated platforms, and boom lifts
- Work independently with minimal supervision
- Work rotating on-call schedule which may include nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
- Work will require occasional travel to other sites to perform maintenance, repairs, or oversight of subcontractors
Your background includes:
- High school diploma or GED
- Three (3) years of related experience with Mechanical/HVAC systems or Electrical systems
- Basic computer skills required including data input, work order coordination and daily logs
- Must obtain NIULPE Class IV power engineering certification within first eighteen months of employment
A bonus to have:
- Associates degree (AA or AS) or Technical degree with related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience troubleshooting and maintaining DDC and energy management systems
- Experience troubleshooting and maintaining HVAC equipment and steam systems
- Refrigerant Handling (EPA 608) certification
- NIULPE Class IV Power Engineer certification (or higher)
- Experience troubleshooting and maintaining generators and engines
- Experience maintaining electrical or photovoltaic equipment
