About this Site:

Washington, DC experiences slightly cool, rainy weather in the spring and hot, humid weather in the summer, giving the intern a chance to experience both the natural environment and vibrant city life. Both Anacostia Park and Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens are easily accessible by bike, train, and car. The closest metro station to Anacostia Park is Anacostia Station on the Green Line, while Deanwood Station on the Orange Line is closest to Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens. Bike paths and routes connect to both parks, offering the intern an option to bike to the park.

The intern will have access to a range of services and facilities, including grocery stores and medical services. Each day will be different, depending on the programs scheduled. The intern will primarily work outdoors along the Anacostia River, the ponds at Kenilworth, or in the marshlands. While the intern may encounter wildlife and insects, these will not pose any hazards. The primary hazard will be the hot and humid summer weather, so it will be important for the intern to stay hydrated and take breaks as needed.

Some days may be spent indoors in an office setting, working on the computer to prepare projects. National Capital Parks-East has hosted many interns in the past, though it cannot be guaranteed that the intern will work alongside others on the same projects.

Interns in this program will receive 480 hours towards Public Land Corps (PLC) Hiring Authority. See below on information about:
