EQA is a New Orleans nonprofit with the mission of providing struggling students with the skills, confidence, and experiences to succeed in the education and career paths of their choice. The organization runs three alternative high schools: The NET: Central City, The NET: Gentilly, and The NET: East. EQA also operates a therapeutic middle school program (The Bridge), a virtual program (The NET: Virtual) and a HiSET program (EQA HiSET @ YEP).

Our goal is to serve students who dropped out, been expelled, or who have otherwise struggled in a traditional school setting. EQA programs are built on the belief that alternative schools should not punish or “fix” young people; they should be vibrant, flexible, and restorative environments that support students in being their best selves.

The NET: Central City Spanish Teacher position is a unique opportunity to work intensively with small groups of your favorite students—the ones that don’t seem to excel in traditional classrooms. 

This position is responsible for:

  • Developing Spanish curriculum for Spanish I & II
  • Teach one course each in Spanish I and Spanish II
  • Support students on online Spanish programs
  • Developing strong relationships and a highly functional, restorative classroom
  • Teach cross curriculum advisory classes where students focus on project based learning 
  • Constantly developing his/her own craft

Position Requirements:

Education & Experience

  • 3 years experience teaching at risk students in an open admissions school with a demonstrated record raising student achievement 
  • Fluent in Spanish 
  • A BA or BS 
  • Louisiana Teacher Certification completed or in progress preferred but not required
  • Passion for improving educational opportunities for urban students and for being a part of a strong, diverse, mission-driven team
  • Specialized interest in working with and developing students with learning and emotional difficulties
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, relationship building & management skills
  • Flexible and learning mindset dedicated to effectively & innovatively problem solving

Details

  • Schedule: 20 hours per week. 9:40-1pm daily preferred—other options available for discussion.
  • Location: The NET: Central City
  • Compensation: starting at $30/hour 
  • Reports to: Principal
