JOB DESCRIPTION

Position:           Parent as Teachers/OCY - Parent Educator/Home Visitor

Reports to:       OCY-Parent as Teachers Supervisor

Schedule:         Non-traditional hours as assigned may include some evenings and weekends.  

Expected to be flexible in terms of scheduling and hours worked

Requires regular work attendance and/or physical presence.

Salary:              $38,000.00

Job Description:

The Parent as Teachers, OCY-Parent Educator/Home Visitor is to partner with assigned families to provide personal instruction, demonstrate appropriate educational activities, and deliver research based printed materials to families regarding child development, parent child interaction and family well-being. Parent Educators/Home Visitors will also administer child developmental screenings (vision, hearing, language, fine and gross motor skill development, social and emotional and health and physical development) for children birth to kindergarten entry.  

PAT OCY -Parent Educators/Home visitors will complete parent/child sessions in the home using the Parents as Teachers Evidence-Based Curriculum with families who are involved with the Office of Children and Youth.  Parent educators/Home visitors will provide the Erie County Office of Children and Youth with quarterly reports summarizing the PAT curriculum sessions. Parent educators/Home Visitors will also provide support to the families at court hearings and in the community.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in early childhood or related human service or social services field, preferred.
  • 1-3 years of work experience supporting, collaborating and goal planning with children and families.
  • 1-3 years working through the reunification process, familiarity with the courts and Erie County Office of Children and Youth policies and procedures in and around reunification.

Additional Requirements: The candidate must pass a Criminal Record History Clearance, FBI and Child Abuse History Clearance, Mandated Reporter training, possess a valid PA Driver's License and must pass a physical exam and drug screening.

Work Expectations:

  • Exhibit high commitment of respect and confidentiality regarding family information, cultural responsiveness and providing a culturally sensitive atmosphere for staff, families and community.
  • Build relationship-based partnerships with staff, community, families and clients.
  • Serve families on a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly basis within the family home or current residence as well as center based when needed.
  • Attend program requirements and other tasks assigned by PAT-OCY Program supervisor.
  • Complete all required documentation regarding visit sessions, and other reports requested by PAT OCY program supervisor, including timely submission of required program documentation needed via data reporting systems and other documentation required by EFC and program guidelines.
  • Coordinate services with other community programs and the Erie County Office of Children and youth to support the family's needs.
  • Attend and complete required National Parents as Teachers certification training, NHSTA car seat certification, developmental screening trainings and mandated reporter training.
  • Travel in and out of Erie County and Pennsylvania.
  • Supportively and effectively work in a team environment.
  • Work independently and exhibit proven case management skills, utilizing the ability to clearly communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Interact with a diverse population of individuals and families professionally and positively while establishing healthy boundaries
  • Demonstrate the ability to utilize technology and virtual formats when necessary.
  • Use time management and organizational skills for effective and accurate documentation
  • Engage directly with both children and adults in a variety of settings.
  • Able to adapt to physical requirements to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods, occasionally requires the ability to stoop, bend, lift and reach.
  • Accept other duties as assigned by PAT-OCY program supervisor and the Erie Family Center CEO which are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications of this position.
