About Etched:

Etched is building AI chips that are hard-coded for individual model architectures. Our first product (Sohu) only supports transformers, but has an order of magnitude more throughput and lower latency than a B200. With Etched ASICs, you can build products that would be impossible with GPUs, like real-time video generation models and extremely deep chain-of-thought reasoning.

Director of Finance:

As we scale our company, we will face a handful of strategic and finance operational challenges. From deciding pricing, SKUs, and unit economics to accounting, financing strategies, and cash flow and supply chain management, we are looking for an experienced Director of Finance to tackle strategic financial challenges and execute on our day-to-day finance operations.

You will work closely with the executive team to implement a finance plan and advise on key strategic issues across the organization, from supply chain to product. This is a high-trust role that hopefully translates into a long-term leadership role at the company.

Representative projects:

• Create monthly, quarterly, and annual P&L, Cash Flow, and HC models
• Establishing an accounting, invoice, and spend management system
• Analyzing and recommending pricing strategies and payment plans
• Analyzing unit economics and identifying opportunities for improvement
• Modeling whether we should take a line-of-credit to finance customer orders

You may be a good fit if you:

• Minimum of 3 years of FP&A experience in Corporate or Strategic Finance
• Deeply understand cash flow management and can make bank reconciliation and bookkeeping
• Track record of excellent project management and data analysis skills
• Have experience with supply chain and financing for hardware products
• Are willing to do a broad set of finance and operations work and oversee accounting

• Deep understanding of AI, hardware, and/or semiconductors
• Deep understanding of the AI research field and broader market
• Deep understanding of the unit economics of GPU and hyperscale clouds

How we’re different:

Etched believes in the Bitter Lesson. We think most of the progress in the AI field has come from using more FLOPs to train and run models, and the best way to get more FLOPs is to build model-specific hardware. Larger and larger training runs encourage companies to consolidate around fewer model architectures, which creates a market for single-model ASICs.

We are a fully in-person team in Cupertino, and greatly value engineering skills. We do not have boundaries between engineering and research, and we expect all of our technical staff to contribute to both as needed.
