Job Summary
The Group Exercise Instructor (GXI) leads fitness and/or related wellness classes using proper exercise techniques and motivation. GXI offers alternatives during class to accommodate different fitness levels. Position requires key competencies of engagement, management and punctuality. Dynamic, energetic and experienced group exercise instructors are the key to the success of our Fitness Center and Health and Wellness programs.
Group Cycle Instructor will lead students through a challenging workout on the stationary bike set to current and upbeat music. Knowledge of indoor cycling technique with ability to "ride to the beat of the music" and develop an energizing music experience and playlist is a must. All classes take place in our stand alone indoor cycling studio.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ADMINISTRATION
- Teach group exercise classes as schedule dictates.
- Plans and instructs fitness and/or related classes following JCC standards and guidelines.
- Observes and discusses individual progress with participants. Develops rapport with members and responds to questions related to fitness.
- Monitors participants to ensure safe workout; responds to and reports, accidents and incidents.
- Prepares room and equipment prior to class and properly secures room and equipment following the class; reports equipment and/or facility problems to supervisor promptly.
- Responsible for maintenance of current Group Exercise certification.
COMMUNICATION
- Regular communication with supervisor on schedule, attendance, changes, updates on certification status and general work in the Fitness Center.
- Receive, adhere to and respond to email, text and phone communication from supervisor and other staff members regarding schedule, attendance, changes and general work in Fitness Center.
- Follow standard course of action as set out by JCC for reporting absences.
AGENCY EXPECTATIONS
- Attend quarterly instructor staff meetings and/or trainings as needed.
- Participate in agency-wide in-service training programs as needed.
- Participate in agency-wide Open House/Program Registration days as needed.
Qualifications

Current Primary Group Fitness Certification (ACE, AFAA, NASM) and/or specialty certifications from an accredited institution.

Current CPR, First Aid, and AED.

At least one year experience of experience or related experience.

High school diploma or equivalent.

Minimum age of 18 years old.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Excellent communication skills. Able to interact professionally with all levels of internal and external personnel.

Deadline/Task orientated-sense of urgency.

Extremely punctual to a fault. Able to keep a strong sense of time, start, and end classes on time.

High energy, proactive, requiring little direction, takes responsibility.

Team oriented.

Willingness to be flexible and available to work shift changes as needed.

Willingness to perform job tasks not part of immediate job responsibilities but aides in member satisfaction and getting the job done.
