SUMMARY:

The Director of Therapy is responsible for overall administration of the Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech departments. Coordinate and direct the professional and non-professional staff of the department in their care of patients ranging from 18 years of age to geriatric experiencing rehabilitation diagnosis/conditions, medical-surgical conditions requiring rehabilitation and/or wound care needs. Responsible for participating in direct patient care per the needs of the facility. Responsible for the administration and operation of department direction, revenue control, cost containment and expense control, quality of services, records management, supervision and direction of assigned personnel, department image and special demands and requirements.

Job Specific:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each key function satisfactorily based on overall skills categories; assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation and teaching/coaching. Assists in development of and participates in new employee orientation and annual mandatory education by providing education pertinent to Rehabilitation services Supports employee and patient education to enhance knowledge, skills, and necessary behaviors to achieve quality outcome.

Job Function:

  • Assess, plan, develop, implement and evaluate all performance improvement activities needed to assure hospital compliance with state and Federal agency regulations and CIHQ standards. Provide ongoing education to staff of quality standards. 100% compliance 100% of the time. Provide education and training to hospital employees and medical staff on performance improvement processes, CIHQ standards, state and Federal regulations. Collect and analyze performance outcomes and data and submit reports to administration and medical staff.
  • Develop, implement and maintain Rehabilitation Departmental policies and procedures that reflect current standards of practice and philosophy of care consistent with CIHQ, state and federal laws and regulations. Monitors staffs compliance. Maintains quality controls on all equipment. Provides a clean and safe environment for staff and patients.
  • Trains and retains qualified competent staff to provide rehab therapy and related services to attain or maintain highest practicable physical, mental and psycho social well-being of each patient. Interviews and hires, assures new employee orientation, regular performance reviews, reviews job actions taken by subordinates to assure that staff meet qualification and performance standards and can perform all essential functions of the job. Reviews staffing plans to ensure sufficient numbers of qualified staff according to budgeted funds.
  • Overall management for value focused documentation process and departmental documentation requirements. Monitor and maintain staffs compliance.
  • Submit proposals related to departmental budgetary staffing and planning. Provide relevant financial information to the CEO/CFO regarding financial needs and status.
  • Remain current with literature related to departments for which responsible and maintain an updated methodology, tools, manuals and criteria as necessary and appropriate. Attends all required hospital meetings.

  • Demonstrates ability to prioritize tasks/responsibilities and compete duties within allotted time.
  • Appropriately accesses the resources of the companys corporate offices for consultation and program development support. Seeks out external resources through conferences, workshops, etc. as necessary. Shares professional knowledge with staff, directors, managers and hospital personnel.
  • Participate in hospital wide patient safety program identifying risks to patient safety and reducing healthcare errors.
  • Comply with HIPAA regulatory requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education

Bachelors degree in a rehabilitation related field. Preference a masters degree in a rehabilitation related field.

License/Certification

Current license in related field in state of practice. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association. Must maintain licensure and certification throughout employment.

Experience

Minimum of three (3) years broad clinical experience is required. Ability to project a professional Image.

Possess in-depth knowledge of functions of all hospital departments and specifically Rehabilitation Departmental performance improvement requirements as outlined by CIHQ, the Department of Health for the State of employment and Federal regulatory standards as outlined by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS). Knowledge and experience in the needs of patients ranging in age from 18 to geriatric. Working knowledge and ability to apply professional standards of practice in job situations.

Strong organizational and analytical skills; excellent writing and speaking skills. Working knowledge of personal computer and software applications used in job functions (Word processing, graphics, databases, spreadsheets, etc.)

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Participates in or conducts company-wide sponsored training to safeguard against improper use and disclosure of patients protected health information. Monitors and ensures compliance with company policies, procedures, state and federal regulations and Accreditation Standards.

  • HIPAA: Conduct job responsibilities in accordance with HIPAA privacy laws, follow hospital policy in provision of patient confidentiality. Able to identify patient confidentiality issues and reports to proper hospital personnel immediately.
  • Compliance: Conducts job responsibilities in accordance with standards set forth in Code of Conduct, policy and procedures, applicable federal and state laws, and applicable standards.
