This practice specializes in the treatment of occupational injuries, so familiarity with the nuances of these patients and their particular requirements is also favorable.
Essential Functions:
- Bring patients into exam rooms and prepare them for the provider
- Interview patients to confirm purpose of visit and to collect medical information
- Review intake paperwork with patients to ensure completeness of information provided
- Accurately record medications, review of systems, pain scores, and past medical information into the EMR
- Assist providers in clinic by removing dressings and sutures, applying casts and splints, and preparing injections
- Explain treatments and procedures to patients and answer questions
- Instruct patients on exercises, post-injection care, and DME usage
- Counsel patients on medications as prescribed; electronically send prescriptions to pharmacies
- Discuss pre-operative protocols with patients scheduled for surgery
- Check out patients, provide necessary paperwork
- Ensure exam rooms are stocked with injection supplies, gloves, disinfectants, etc.
- Sterilize instruments and properly dispose of contaminated items
- Answer phones, respond to patient questions, and schedule appointments
- Schedule tests, imaging, physical therapy, and nerve conduction studies; obtain reports
- Complete FMLA and disability paperwork
- Scan paperwork into the EMR
- Comply with OSHA, State and Federal regulatory standards
- Follow HIPAA guidelines and maintain strict patient confidentiality
Work Environment:
This position operates in a medical office environment and frequently comes into contact with patients. There is a risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens or patient elements.
Physical Requirements:
This role is required to frequently move about the office and assist patients. Stooping, kneeling and repetitively changing from a sitting to standing position up to 8 hours per day is required. Lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling of up to 30 pounds is required. This role is required to frequently operate a computer and telephone.
Position Type:
This is an hourly full-time position that typically works Monday through Thursday from 7:30AM to 4:00PM and Fridays from 7:30AM to 3:00PM.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum two years of medical assistant experience
- Proficient data entry abilities
- Excellent communication skills
