TITLE: Vice President of Risk Management

LOCATION:  Remote based with occasional travel required. The new VP of Risk Management must be available to work onsite in Tallahassee for the first few months of employment, with travel as needed thereafter.

REPORTS TO:  CEO  

KEY RELATIONSHIPS AND TEAM:    The Vice President of Risk Management will work closely with a diverse range of stakeholders, including the Audit and Technology Committee of the Board, senior executives, and cross-functional teams across the organization. This role will involve collaboration with departments such as Compliance, Operations, Human Resources, Finance, and Technology to implement a holistic, company-wide risk management program (AKA Governance and Compliance) and ensure that risk management initiatives are effectively integrated into all business processes. Additionally, the VP will lead the risk management team, fostering a culture of proactive risk awareness and continuous improvement. Building strong relationships with both internal and external partners will be essential for successfully navigating the regulatory landscape and enhancing the company’s risk management capabilities.

THE OPPORTUNITY:   The Vice President of Risk Management will lead and innovate the company's risk management initiatives. This role involves identifying, evaluating, mitigating, and monitoring compliance, operational, and strategic risks. The VP will enhance and oversee the risk management program, ensuring all potential risks are identified and addressed. This position requires developing and implementing risk management strategies, policies, and procedures to protect the company's assets and ensure regulatory compliance. The VP will collaborate closely with the Audit and Technology Committee of the Board and senior executives, including the CEO, to align risk management with the company's strategic goals.

Specifically, the Vice President of Risk Management will have responsibility to:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive risk management strategies, programs, and policies.
  • Identify, assess, and prioritize potential organizational risks.
  • Oversee the development and execution of risk mitigation plans.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements applicable to the financial institutions served by the company.
  • Collaborate with senior management to align risk management initiatives with the company's strategic objectives and deliver that strategy to the company using exceptional leadership skills.
  • Monitor and report on the effectiveness of risk management strategies and policies.
  • Lead and manage the risk management team, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments and audits to identify areas of vulnerability and risk mitigation progress.
  • Develop and deliver training programs on risk management best practices.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Professional Qualifications: 

The following knowledge, skills, education, and experiences are required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, business administration, or a related field; advanced degree and/or relevant certification preferred (e.g., JD, CRCM, CRM, CRP, MBA).
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in risk management, preferably in the consumer financial services industry.
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements and compliance standards.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement appropriate and effective risk management strategies.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with board members, senior management, clients and vendors, regulatory authorities, and other stakeholders.

The following knowledge, skills, and experiences are preferred, but not required:

  • Professional certifications such as Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM), Certified Risk Manager (CRM), Certified Risk Professional (CRP), or similar.
  • Experience with operational management and regulatory compliance in the automotive finance industry.
  • Familiarity with technology-enabled risk management and compliance solutions.
