Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Assistant to join our team. In this role, you will provide essential support to veterinarians. Travel is required. Your responsibilities will include, but is not limited to, assisting with the care of animals, maintaining a clean and organized workspace, and ensuring the comfort and safety of our patients. The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for animal welfare, excellent communication skills, and a willingness to learn.
Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians during examinations and procedures by preparing necessary equipment and materials.
- Handle and restrain animals safely during examinations and treatments.
- Administer medications as directed by veterinarians, including injections and oral medications.
- Maintain accurate medical records for each animal treated in the clinic.
- Perform laboratory tests such as blood draws, urinalysis, and fecal examinations.
- Ensure cleanliness of the clinic by disinfecting surfaces, cleaning cages, and managing waste disposal.
- Educate pet owners on proper animal care, including nutrition, grooming, and preventive health measures.
- Monitor animals post-treatment for any adverse reactions or changes in condition.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of veterinary terminology and animal anatomy is preferred.
- Experience in a veterinary clinic setting is a plus but not required; willingness to learn is essential.
- Familiarity with medication administration techniques is beneficial.
- Strong skills in animal handling and restraint to ensure the safety of both staff and animals.
- Understanding of animal husbandry practices to promote health and well-being.
- Ability to perform animal catheterization procedures is an advantage.
- Experience in laboratory settings or performing basic lab tests is desirable.
