What are the responsibilities and job description for the Parent Coach position at Family & Children's Aid?
Family & Children’s Aid (FCA) is here to heal and support children and families in their time of need. We are a community-based, non-profit organization providing innovative and responsive programs and services throughout central and western Connecticut. FCA services over 3,000 families a year from low to moderate income.
FCA is seeking a dedicated Parent Coach to join our Reunification and Therapeutic Family Time (RTFT) program to service families in the Danbury and Torrington DCF catchment areas. Services are primarily home based.
RTFT aids DCF in determining family readiness for reunification, coaches parents/primary caregivers on parenting skills, and works with the child, biological family and foster family as a team to support a healthy, successful transition and achieve a higher rate of reunification permanency.
The RTFT Worker works in collaboration with the Department of Children and Families (DCF) to support and intervene with parents whose children (from birth to age 17) are placed in out-of-home care by offering a menu of services designed to promote and effect successful reunification, strengthen parent/child relationships and attachments, and reduce the risk for further abuse and neglect.
Qualifications and Skills
- Valid Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services or related field of study.
- Valid Driver’s License with clean driving record.
- Minimum of two (2) years related experience working with children and families.
- Minimum of two (2) years related case management experience.
- Must be willing to spend about 50% of the work week traveling/driving.
- Spanish Speaking a plus.

- Provide mentoring and support to parents, fostering effective parenting skills and strategies.
- Conduct assessments and develop individualized plans to address family needs.
- Collaborate with social workers and human services professionals to ensure comprehensive care.
- Maintain accurate case documentation and follow up on progress with families.
