What are the responsibilities and job description for the MLS-MLT position at Family Practice of Grand Island?
JOB SUMMARY:
The MLS-MT-MLT will work in conjunction with the Lab and X-Ray Department. Providing excellent patient care while performing moderate and high-complexity testing, technical laboratory bench work, and phlebotomy procedures with confidence and minimal trauma to patients.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Regularly and predictably attend work.
- Accurately identify patients and patient specimens.
- Load samples to lab analyzers and centrifuges.
- Perform waived, moderate, and high complexity laboratory procedures efficiently.
- Must record and report accurate patient results on report forms, either electronically or written or both.
- Monitor and assist work performed by Laboratory Assistants/Phlebotomists.
- Perform and document daily QC and maintenance procedures to ensure accuracy and reliability of patient test results.
- Participate in API and other proficiency events as required.
- Perform phlebotomy procedures with confidence and with minimal trauma to patients. To include the following: Venipunctures and Finger & Heel stick capillary collections.
- Obtain, without difficulty, throat swab and nasopharyngeal specimens.
- Is able to explain the collection of miscellaneous specimens to the patient and /or collect miscellaneous specimens themselves.
- Assist in the training and preceptorship of new hires and clinical students.
- Obtain a Limited Radiographer Licensure to allow performance of X-Ray procedures, if required by supervisor.
- Assist in X-ray, phlebotomy, and Lab reception as needed.
- Observe all safety precautions in the Laboratory/X-ray department.
- Perform clerical and receptionist duties as assigned by Supervisor.
- Perform waived laboratory procedures efficiently and with minimal supervision of a staff MT/MLS/MLT.
- Possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Terminology or Medical Laboratory Science or an Associates Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology.
- Maintain CPR certification and renew within 3 months of expiration date.
- Comply with HIPAA confidentiality.
- Other duties or specialty jobs as assigned.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Is familiar with medical terminology and will use the Family Practice Abbreviation list correctly.
- Planning and time-management abilities which facilitate the work flow of the laboratory/x-ray department and physician or advanced practice providers.
- Possess knowledge of computers and their function in the medical work place.
- Safely operate necessary medical equipment required to perform Essential Job Duties.

TRAINING: Training will include a three-week orientation. The Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Laboratory Technologist will be trained in the proper use of medical and office equipment including training on the computer, laboratory/x-ray equipment, and our current software. The Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Laboratory Technologist will also be trained in proper documentation and office forms. Knowledge of office policies will be included in the training.
Pay: $18.00 - $38.00 per hour
