What are the responsibilities and job description for the Instructional Designer - Distance Learning position at Farmingdale State College?
The Office of Distance Learning is currently looking for an Instructional Designer.
The Instructional Designer will support faculty in the educational design and development of learner-centered online and hybrid courses, instructional materials and active learning strategies. The position will advise faculty in the development of accessible instructional materials, the application of pedagogy in technology based teaching, instructional technology tools and the development and use of online materials in the delivery of instruction. This position will require remote evening hours.
Responsibilities for the position include:
- Work one on one or in small groups with faculty on the development of technologically enhanced online and hybrid courses.
- Collaborate with a senior instructional designer for the consistent development and redesign of exemplary courses.
- Assist faculty in revising and redesigning current courses.
- Assist in the development of course materials.
- Assist faculty in the development of accessible materials and programs.
- Advise faculty on the pedagogy of technology based teaching.
- Work with faculty on technology based delivery of courses materials.
- Design, deliver, and assess workshops and presentations on pedagogical best practices and appropriate integration of instructional technologies, encompassing learning objectives, active learning strategies, and assessment methods.
- Communicate effectively in large and small groups and in writing.
- Provide documentation as appropriate and as needed.
- Research, evaluate, test, and assess current and emerging instructional technologies in instructional design and innovative teaching strategies.
- Participates in working groups and committees.
- Engage in professional development to stay abreast of learning theories, pedagogical, and technological developments.
- Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and department mission.

Job Requirements:
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree in education technology
- Five years experience working in instructional design and online teaching in higher education
- Experience building online and hybrid courses
- Experience with assessment techniques
- Experience using instructional technologies
- Experience with designing, developing, and delivering instructional workshops and courses
- Proven experience with Blackboard Learn, Collaborate, Panopto, VoiceThread, ProctorU, Ally, WASE, LinkedIn Learning, Axiom Mentor and HelpDesk
- Strong written and oral communication skills
ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with Open SUNY OSCQR rubric
- Open SUNY or OLC Online Teaching Certificate or training
- Open SUNY or OLC Accessibility training
- VoiceThread Educator Certificate or training
- Quality Matters Certificate
- Experience presenting on instructional design topics
Additional Information:
This is a full-time UUP position.
- For the first 10 working days, beginning Thursday, October 28, 2021 and ending Wednesday, November 10, 2021, UUP Farmingdale applications will be given priority.
