OVERVIEW
First Ascent Climbing & Fitness is seeking a friendly, caring, and fun Pre-K & K-1 youth climbing instructor. First Ascent has a robust and ever expanding youth program that includes 8-week youth rec classes (ages 3-17), kids drop-in times, youth camps and a strong competitive youth team program.
Between our changing 8-week session offerings (classes are often added throughout the year), our winter and summer camps, Kids Rock Block drop-in times, and group events, we are always looking to add quality youth instructors that will help us grow and develop our world class youth program.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Independently run 50-60 minute classes with 4 students (Pre-K parents or Grades K-1)
Implement a structured curriculum, but also be creative and flexible when necessary to maintain maximum student engagement at all times, and adapt to individual student needs.
Communicate with parents regarding their child’s progress
Coordinate and communicate with the Youth Rec Manager on a regular basis.
Contribute ideas for new teaching exercises or games.
REQUIREMENTS AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Applicants must have availability during 7:45am-1pm on Saturday and/or Sunday. Preference will be given to applicants with additional weekday availability.
The ideal applicant will have previous experience teaching rock climbing to children.
1 year or more of experience working with children ages 4 and under, preferably in a group setting, is required.
1 year or more of personal climbing experience is preferred, but not required.
Awareness of Pre-K and K gross motor skills & movement.
High level of energy and affect.
Belay certified at FA or ability to pass belay certification upon hire.
Be safety focused and vigilant.
Possess excellent communication skills with children and adults.
Be dependable and timely.
Upstanding reputation in the climbing community.
