Essential Functions
- Greet patients, prepare them for services and make them comfortable during care
- Complete a prophylaxis including the removal of calculus, plaque, and stains from the teeth and beneath the gums
- Visually examine gums for sores and signs of disease
- Conduct an extra oral exam to detect swelling or tenderness that could indicate the presence of disease
- Apply fluoride and other cavity preventing agents to arrest dental decay
- Apply sealants
- Chart conditions of decay and disease as requested by the dentist in the electronic patient record
- Obtain quality digital x-rays
- Provide clinical services and oral health education to patients, their caregivers and families to improve and maintain oral health
- Completely and accurately conduct a caries risk assessment and follow up with Best Care Program motivational interview
- Accurately post transactions in the computer system
- May administer local anesthetic agents
- Disinfect, clean, and sterilize work area and instruments
- Perform weekly and monthly maintenance of autoclaves and other equipment
- Follow the infection control protocol as outlined by OSHA
- Attend hygiene meetings and all scheduled staff meetings
- Review patient chart and medical history forms
- Assist with stocking supplies, general cleaning, and sharpening instruments
- Scheduling recall and sealant appointments
- Conducting hygiene education and/or screenings for daycare, schools, and office tours
- Other duties as assigned
The anticipated schedule would be:
Tuesday- Thursday: 7:45 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
One Monday per month: 7:45 a.m.-4:00p.m.
No Friday's!
- Valid State of Wisconsin Dental Hygiene License
- CPR certification
- One year of dental hygiene experience preferred
- One year of experience working with or caring for children preferred
- Strong customer service skills and commitment to patient/parent satisfaction
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate with and educate parents
- Must be able to communicate with coworkers and work as a team in order to maintain a steady flow and accommodate patients scheduled within the hygiene department as well as other aspects of the office
- Good time management skills
- Exceptional behavior management skills or willingness to learn
- Good hand/eye coordination, manual dexterity and precision
- Basic computer and data entry skills
- Familiarity with Dentrix Ascend and Kodak Imaging helpful.
- Requires local travel to other First Impressions offices
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality
