Position Summary:
Collaborating efficiently with the orthodontist and team members to bring a high standard of care to all patients. The Orthodontic Assistant has direct responsibility for providing chair side support to the orthodontist on any/all procedures and supports the patient in comfort and service to build long lasting relationships and retention. The Orthodontic Assistant contributes to the overall operational success of the practice.

Essential Functions
Prepare work area, equipment and instruments for each patient
Prepare, pack, and transport needed equipment and instruments to take to satellite offices
Greet patient, prepare them for treatment and assist in making them comfortable during procedures
Send thank you letters and/or make care calls for all production appointments
Deliver accurate instructions for appliances and oral hygiene
Answer questions/concerns patients and parents have before and after treatment and procedures
Perform records appointments consisting of impressions, x-rays, and pictures
Transfer x-rays between software systems
Not only assist orthodontist during procedures but also complete instructed tie ins and education independently
Take impressions for space maintainers and other appliances
Pour, trim, and fabricate models and appliances
Complete lab slips and send appliances and/or impressions to be fabricated
Take panoramic, cephalometric, bitewing and periapicals x-rays Sterilize dental instruments, equipment and dental area and maintain a clean work area
Enter accurate and thorough treatment notes and appropriate codes for each procedure into computer system
Inventory, order and stock supplies as needed
Answer phone calls promptly and return messages regarding all clinical functions
Requires familiarity with orthodontic assistant manual, terminology and functions related to clinical focus
Requires understanding of clinical orthodontic norms
Respond promptly to patient/parent clinical inquiries and resolve all complaints in a timely and professional manner
Greet patients/parents upon “seating” and gives fond farewell at end of appointment
Verifying, updating and editing patient questionnaires and health histories s needed
Enter/create alerts/notes Enter non-contracted charges as needed
Complete specific clinical/scheduling reports
Other duties and tasks as assigned

Minimum Requirements High School Diploma
Strong desire to work with children
Orthodontic experience preferred Strong customer service skills and commitment to patient/parent experience
Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate with and educate parents
Good hand/eye coordination, manual dexterity and precision
Basic computer and data entry skills
Requires local travel to other First Impressions offices
Must be able to act calmly, effectively and professionally in stressful situations
Must be able to promote teamwork and communication between coworkers
Ability to maintain patient confidentiality
Working Conditions
Will be responsible for working in a dynamic environment with a fully equipped and well-lit office.
May be required to sit for extended periods of time.
Frequent/Occasional lifting of 10-20 pounds.
A need to travel via automobile to the satellite office locations is required regularly.
May be required to work longer hours than the average 40-hour workweek to meet deadlines and the needs of the office.
