Title: Head of School – Fuller Academy

Department: Fuller Academy – part of the Fuller Center programs

Hours: Full Time/ Exempt

General Description: The Fuller Academy Director is responsible for the overall administration and supervision of the total school operation on a day-to-day basis in the following areas: recruiting, enrollment, and retention of students and staff. They oversee and plan all phases of instructional leadership for the school, including educational programming, operations and administration, budgetary planning, discipline, and counseling services.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the daily management of the school and the office.
  • Lead educators in the school by providing periodic observations and evaluations completed based on the timetables set by the school calendar.
  • Offer additional training and guidance for teachers as necessary based on class observations and evaluation reports.
  • Work with Human Resources to hire and onboard all faculty and staff for the school and preside over hearings that may be necessary to dismiss or coach a staff member.
  • Oversee, hire, and evaluate the performance of all staff.

Educational Leadership:

  • Ensure a productive learning environment through continual collaboration with teachers, students, parents, and staff.
  • Conduct weekly classroom observations for instruction, classroom management, and classroom organization.
  • Provide professional development and technical assistance to teachers and clerical staff.
  • Develop strategies and provide leadership and technical support to assist teachers and teacher assistants in developmentally appropriate, standards-based instruction, program implementation, supervision, and evaluation.
  • Facilitate opportunities to connect with students and families by being present and available during arrival and dismissal, attending school functions, and meeting with students.
  • Enforce disciplinary policies and procedures with students.

Family and Community Engagement:

  • Participate in meetings and conferences between parents, teachers, and students to address a variety of issues and needs.
  • Represent the Academy in community activities and meetings.
  • Foster positive relationships with the Community school network, community organizations, and leaders.
  • Collaborate with other Center Directors and educators within the Fuller Center to recruit new students.

Administrative Duties:

  • Maintain competency in student academic achievement as prescribed by the school goals.
  • Preside over staff meetings.
  • Ensure the completion of routine and required paperwork, including attendance reports, test results, tuition reimbursement, meal counts, outstanding tuition and fee balances, licensing documentation, and staff and school management reports.
  • Ensure the necessary maintenance of technology, supplies, and school property.
  • Oversee the allocation of supplies and equipment.
  • Oversee and implement the school budget and curriculum.
  • Manage all staff vacation, sick leave, lateness, and coverage within the school.
  • Meet monthly with the Chief Program Officer to provide updated detailed status reports.
  • Provide quarterly updates to the Marketing Director on school events and achievements.
  • Coordinate monthly and annual calendars with both Centers (East & West) to ensure alignment.
  • Conduct and manage all communications through Procare and other school technology platforms.

Compliance and Safety:

  • Conduct monthly fire drills, lockdowns, active shooter, and other required training.
  • Maintain and ensure all student files are up-to-date and compliant.
  • Ensure Procare and school systems are updated with accurate student and family information.
  • Ensure the accuracy of allergy lists and phone extension logs for distribution to teachers and classrooms.
  • Oversee all incident reports and referrals, working closely with the Family Empowerment and Support team as needed.
  • Provide support and follow-up for students with behavioral issues.
  • Ensure compliance requirements by the Department of Education and Step Up program.

Fundraising and Development:

  • Identify additional funding opportunities through the Department of Education, donors, local businesses, and the community at large.
  • Manage the marketing calendar and follow-ups to ensure events are being scheduled and executed effectively.

Enrollment and Financial Management:

  • Responsible for all procurement processes related to the Step Up scholarship program, including enrolling students in the system, assisting parents with applications, monitoring approvals, and tracking disbursements.
  • Collect all fees required by the school and work with families to manage and budget for educational expenses.
  • Ensure enrollment remains at maximum capacity throughout the school year.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Perform other duties as required.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the functions of this position. This position requires a moderate amount of sitting, walking, and the frequent use of hands and arms. Talking and listening will be a major component. Occasionally, light lifting will be required. The ability to focus with the eyes for close range and distinguish colors is required. Additionally, the work environment is a typical climate-controlled office environment, and the noise level is usually moderate, though occasionally louder noise situations may occur.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Education and School Administrator License (required).
  • At least 5 years of teaching experience (required).

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with PROCARE is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong leadership, supervisory, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to effectively administer multifaceted operations.
  • Thorough understanding of applicable local, state, and federal education laws, regulations, policies, and requirements.
  • Thorough understanding of instructional methodology.
  • Problem-solving and creative thinking skills.
  • Ability to create, understand, and implement budgets and budgeting practices.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Additional language proficiency in Spanish, Portuguese, Russian or Creole is a plus.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $80,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
