Position Summary:

The Controller will report to the Corporate Controller and will be responsible for internal and external financial reporting on a statutory and GAAP basis; budgeting and forecasting; internal control documentation and testing and insurance regulatory reporting.

Essential Functions:

• Accounting and Budget Oversight:
  • Manages company accounting functions
  • Implements financial controls and procedures to safeguard corporate assets and resources
  • Implements accounting policies as approved by the Board
  • Complies with industry standard and mandated reporting standards and ensures accurate and timely financial reporting and budgeting
  • Prepares monthly and annual financial statements
  • Prepares quarterly and annual statutory financial statements in accordance with State and NAIC statutory principles
  • Provides analysis and insightful review of monthly and quarterly financial performance
  • Maintains records of accounting policies and procedures
  • Assists with cash flow analyses and corporate banking activities
  • Supervises accounting staff
  • Oversight of custodial, investment and treasury functions
  • Policy administration BPO selection & implementation team
  • Catastrophe planning (i.e. Irma Claims Closure workflow monitoring)
  • Maintain Corporate Governance records
  • Organizational workflow improvement (Legal, Claims, BPO Accounting)
  • Ongoing Claim Management System project team (Focus on streamlining and automating claims processing and claim payments)
  • Duck Creek (Data extraction and analytics for monthly and quarterly financial reporting)

• Regulatory and Compliance:
  • Ensures compliance with relevant State and NAIC regulations.
  • Manages relationships with outside auditors and oversees annual audit and tax preparations.

Required Education and Experience:

• BA in Accounting or Finance
• CPA required / Masters degree (MBA) strongly preferred
• 5 years Property & Casualty Insurance experience
• Complete Yellow Book Statutory reporting and preparation is required
• 3 years supervisory experience leading a team of financial professionals
• Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP)
• Expert knowledge of Microsoft software packages
