We are currently seeking Senior Hydrologists in support of FEMA disaster relief efforts across the United States. Are you wanting to give back to communities? Do you want to travel across the country and have the travel expenses covered? We have ongoing needs for engineering opportunities in support of FEMA’s Public Assistance program.

What You Will Be Doing

These deployments focus on rebuilding/reconstruction efforts for anything owned by a government entity such as infrastructure including roadways, bridges, and highways, city/county buildings, school and hospitals. You will be assisting these entities throughout the FEMA grants application process. This could include reviewing construction drawings and change orders for large commercial facilities and/or roadways and bridges to provide technical guidance/recommendations, review/conduct site inspections; validate damages; record detailed damage descriptions, scopes of work and cost estimates; and evaluate projects for compliance with applicable laws, regulations and policies.

Expected pay: $65/hr.

Requirements

• Must have a bachelor’s degree with 5 years of experience in a related field and professional registration or bachelor’s degree with 10 years of experience in a related field
• Should have experience in developing, analyzing, interpreting and/or evaluating scientific, hydrologic, or geologic data and communicating the results in writing and giving recommendations.
• Certifications: Professional Engineer (PE)
  
  

Tasks

• Performs hydrologic and hydraulics engineering studies in support of water resources planning; design and construction; reservoir regulation; and flood plain management.
• Manages aspects of hydrologic and hydraulics studies and designs of difficult and complex problems.
• Executes detailed hydrologic studies that may include rainfall-runoff relationships, regional/discharge-frequency/precipitation-frequency analysis, reservoir system simulation, debris and sediment estimates, and reservoir yields.
• Presents hydrologic and hydraulics study results and its use in design studies.
• Collaborating with customers or partners on hydrologic forecast products and services.
• FEMA will require individuals with specific technical expertise to conduct site inspections on sites with major damage (e.g., destroyed facilities; facilities with extensive damage; facilities with significant damage to mechanical, electrical and plumbing components, etc.) to document disaster related damage.
• May conduct site inspections to validate infrastructure damage and record detailed damage descriptions during the inspection.
• Reviewing and analyzing professional architectural engineering, ports and designs or as built plans. Thoroughly documenting, analysis and writing.
• Developing scopes of work, including related code and standard requirements.
• Validating applicant provided scopes of work including related Code and standard requirements.
• Developing and reviewing cost estimates.
• Assisting FEMA staff on the technical validity of claims presented under FEMA’s arbitration process. Should arbitration hearings occur. Testify as an expert witness on FEMA’s behalf.
