Opened in 1954 and designed by Morris Lapidus, it was the most luxurious hotel on Miami Beach, and is thought to be the most significant building of Lapidus' career.

Fontainebleau Miami Beach is seeking a Director of Labor Relations to oversee the day-to-day administration in labor relations. This role reports to the Vice President of Human Resources and provides direct performance management support and counsel to our leaders and team members in union and non-union roles while managing the relationship between the Hotel and the Union.

Responsibilities

As the Director of Labor Relations, you will consult with Team Members, Managers, and Executives to provide expert advice and recommend solutions on the full spectrum of labor/employee relations and compliance issues. This includes overseeing investigations and managing all levels of disciplinary actions for union and non-union Team Members. This role will assist with labor negotiations, conflict resolution, contract administration, grievance mediation and arbitration, conduct labor/management meetings, leadership training, and advise on all union and non-union matters affecting the organization.

 

Essential Functions

Responsible for ensuring adherence to Company's progressive discipline policy to maintain a work environment in which all individuals are treated with respect and dignity.

  • Ensure all Leaders are in compliance with labor relations policy, applicable labor laws, contract interpretation, and grievance resolution.
  • Coach and counsel managers to build competency in performance management and provide positive employee relations. Educate and guide managers and supervisors through the grievance process and contract interpretation.
  • Liaison between the Hotel and UNITE HERE, Local 355.
  • Support interpretation and execution of CBA's and labor relations issues to resolve issues effectively.
  • Stay up to date on relevant labor legislation, labor issues, and innovative industry labor relations practices to support effective labor relations management.
  • Manage the grievance process from onset through arbitration to ensure effective and prompt resolutions.
  • Develop, coordinate, and/or facilitate Employee and Labor Relations development programs for supervisors and management to include coaching programs and corrective action guidelines.
  • Ensure all disciplinary actions and terminations are consistent with Fontainebleau Policies and Procedures as well as hotel wide.
  • Responds to all union information requests on a timely basis.
  • Represent the Company in third step grievances and arbitrations.
  • Maintain grievance logs and prepare statistical reports.
  • Support Human Resources on special projects as needed as directed by the Vice President of Human Resources.

Qualifications

  • 4-year degree from an accredited university in Human Resources or related major preferred.
  • 5 years of experience in a Management role in Human Resources, Management Operations in hospitality or related professional area.
  • Strong experience with all aspects of labor relations, including collective bargaining, union organizing, grievance and contract administration, dispute resolution, business acquisition and divestiture, union benefits and pension plans, and constructive engagement with labor organizations required.
  • SPHR or PHR certification a plus.
  • Availability to work in an on-site role.
