Position Summary
The Specialized Training Lead provides vocational guidance through job coaching strategies and mentorship to STEP Associates at the Food Bank of Delaware, as well as to students enrolled in The Kitchen School program. This role involves assisting students in developing culinary skills pertinent to the food service and hospitality industries, facilitating their successful transition into employment within these sectors. Additionally, the Lead is responsible for overseeing and supervising STEP Associates in designated workspaces at the Food Bank of Delaware. This includes closely collaborating with internal department managers and supervisors to ensure that the Associates’ daily responsibilities align with their job roles and expectations. The Lead also provides guidance on employment standards and appropriate workplace conduct to both STEP Associates and students.
Major Responsibilities and Essential Functions
· Prioritize the health and safety of students and Associates by mitigating risks and strictly adhering to all Food Bank of Delaware (FBD) safety guidelines.
· Work closely with the Specialized Training team to define and implement job responsibilities, ensuring quality control through effective monitoring practices.
· Develop and execute customized job coaching strategies, including transitional skill development and job placement, tailored to individual needs.
· Conduct daily monitoring, observations, and oversight, offering constructive feedback by identifying strengths and areas requiring additional support.
· Assess and document the progress of students and STEP Associates in achieving employment goals and outcomes.
· Partner with internal and external managers and supervisors to identify and implement natural support strategies for students and STEP Associates.
· Collaborate with external employer partners to facilitate employment opportunities for students through proactive outreach and engagement.
· Foster positive relationships and interactions within the FBD team, with students, visitors, and guests, ensuring alignment with FBD’s mission and values.
· Actively participate in classroom activities to reinforce student learning of the training program curriculum.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualification and Experience
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- High School Diploma or GED required. Associate or bachelor’s degree in human services-related field preferred.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license
- Must have 1 years’ experience working with individuals diagnosed with IDD/Neuro-diverse and/or dual diagnoses
- Must possess good written and verbal skills
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office
- Previous experience as a Direct Support Professional, Employment Specialist (Job Coach), Para-professional, or Therapeutic Support Specialist is strongly preferred

Physical Requirements
- Working at a computer workstation, generally with a monitor, will be required
- The role will occasionally be exposed to warehouse and commercial kitchen environments
- Protective equipment must be worn when and where required
- All roles may require sitting, bending, lifting (up to 20 pounds), squatting, and other minimal physical activity
