Pay Grade: Grade 3, Step 1, $16.19 per hour
Schedule: 5.9 hours per day / 5 days per week / School Year / 38 weeks
Job Summary: To assist and support accelerating the English language development of multilingual learner (MLL) students.
Qualifications:
- Must meet NCLB requirements: 60 college credit hours; or an Associate’s degree; or Workkeys certification
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to different instructional environments including in-class, online, and independent small-group
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Excellent organizational, communication, and recordkeeping skills
- Ability to maintain the confidentiality of students, schools, teachers, and classrooms
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience working with Multilingual (a.k.a. English learner) students
- TESOL Certification and/or SIOP training
- Bachelor’s degree (education preferred)
- Certified as an elementary teacher in the State of Michigan
- Previous experience with academic intervention support
- Familiarity with instructional technology and online learning software
Essential Job Functions:
- Provide English language development support to Multilingual Learner (MLL) students in all learning areas as directed by certified classroom and/or ESL-certified teacher or ELD Instructional Coach
- Work closely with newcomer MLL students to build English proficiency and help acclimate them to the American school setting
- Additional responsibilities will include:
- Maintaining daily time/effort and activity logs per state and federal guidelines
- Observing and documenting student progress as requested
- Supporting classroom teachers and principal in making data-informed decisions to meet students’ instructional needs
- Systematically communicating student progress with ESL-certified teacher, classroom teachers, and ELS Instructional Coach when appropriate
- Staffing Family Outreach events for parents/guardians of MLL students
- Attending staff meetings as requested
- Attending data review meetings as requested
- Attending professional learning as requested
- Maintain daily time/effort and activity logs per federal Title III guidelines (only if Title III)
- Consistent and reliable attendance
- Perform other duties as assigned
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk, hear (in a quiet or noisy environment). The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust/focus.
Work Environment:
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud to moderate. Work may be performed indoors and/or outdoors. The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being and work output of students.
Mental Functions:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to compare, analyze, communicate both orally and in writing, copy, coordinate, instruct, compute, synthesize, evaluate, use interpersonal skills, compile and negotiate.
