Engineering Intern II
Summary
Primarily responsible for providing technical support in the development/design of assigned engineering
projects. This position will work with the project team throughout the design and construction process,
adapting plans according to budget constraints, design factors or client needs. This position will work
directly under the supervision of a registered professional engineer.
Roles & Responsibilities
• Applies standard industry techniques and procedures to perform tasks for grading, drainage,
sanitary sewer, water, utilities, bridge, roadway, and/or site development.
• Exercises limited judgment on details of work and in application of standard methods for
conventional work.
• Assists on other tasks such as: preparation of permit applications, material testing, drawings,
and computer-aided design (CAD) work. Is familiar with F&T CAD standards.
• Performs basic design tasks and is familiar with general design standards (i.e. can generate an
alignment, create a profile, drainage areas, perform calculations).
• Makes precise and accurate updates based on received markups.
• Collects data and gathers project related information or documents and stores appropriately.
• Manages time on project work according to directives from supervisors and Project
Engineers/Project Managers and remains communicative and responsive throughout.
• Assigns tasks to and coordinates with technicians or administrative/junior staff and occasionally
peers.
• Gives opinions of probable cost.
• Engages in communication with clients on a limited basis.
Job Requirements
• 1-2 years’ experience.
• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
• EI Certification.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret drawings and documents.
• Basic familiarity with budgets.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• General knowledge of all applicable computer software for Engineering discipline and Microsoft
Office Suite applications (esp. Autocad Civil 3D, Outlook, Teams, Excel). Familiarity with drainage
design software per application in at least two applications.
• Flexibility and time management to work on concurrent projects under deadlines.
• Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and
demonstrated critical thinking skills.
• Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
