Position Summary:
The on-call administrator is responsible for all aspects of resident care which includes the administrative and clinical supervision and management of Francis House on after hours, weekends and holidays. The on-call administrator assumes the responsibility of the general household issues including but not limited to volunteer issues, oxygen issues, equipment use problems, and fire and security issues. The on-call administrator provides support to all residents and families and serves as support to caregivers to ensure that quality care is being provided to all residents and their families.
Education and Skills Requirements:
· Must be a Registered Nurse with at least 3 years of acute care/certified home care experience. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN preferred)
· Excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.
· Provide a calming presence.
· Represent Francis House mission, vision and values to staff, visitors, volunteers, family members and the community.
· Previous experience with end-of-life care preferred.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
· Responsible for all administrative supervision and all aspects of resident care, of Francis House on off hours including overnights or weekends.
· Maintains the safety and security of Francis House residents, staff, families and volunteers.
· Serves as a liaison to Hospice regarding resident care needs, changes in condition and symptom management.
· Provides supervision and support for the caregivers to ensure that routine care is delivered as per standards of care.
· Provides and ensures respect and reverence for the deceased resident and family according to the Francis House traditions and customs, including care of the body, the room, leading and including the family in final prayers, if they so choose.
· Demonstrates medication competency, preparing new medications orders per policy for administration. Follows the medication procedure as outlined in the policy that includes initiating, changing, or discontinued medications and that orders changes are thoroughly documented, and communication is made to staff.
· Ensures sufficient PRN medications are poured for each resident in the house and prepares and labels all medications per FH policy.
· Provides instruction and critical thinking skills based on clinical observations of the residents to the caregiving staff.
· Receives report prior to the beginning of the shift on the status of residents and any pertinent safety or family concerns, any new or pending orders, current staffing and potential staffing issues.
· Rounds on residents and introduce self to residents and family if present.
· Provides education to residents and families about end-of-life and addresses any family issues if they arise promptly.
· Provides communication and feedback from families regarding resident care and collaborate with Hospice to manage the care of the residents.
· If new medications are ordered by Hospice, on-call will pick up and prepare medications as ordered. Document changes in the communication book and update the pencil chart.
· Reports resident care needs or issues to Hospice in a timely manner.
· Ensures Francis House values and culture are being followed by each caregiver.
· Acts as a liaison between volunteers and caregivers to ensure that volunteers feel welcome and a resource when other administrative staff are not in the house.
· Ensures the caregivers are following the plan of care of each resident and communicating appropriately residents’ needs to promote a continuity of care to provide a safe and secure environment.
· Reports to the Director of Resident Care or administrator on following the completion of their assigned shift.
· Serves in the caregiver role, if necessary, to ensure a proper ratio of caregivers to residents.
· Report all absences or call-ins to Human Resources within 24 hours by email.
