Job Summary
As a RA-II, you will play a vital role in groundbreaking research projects involving a diverse range of large and small laboratory animals, with a primary focus on rodents and non-human primates. Your work will directly contribute to advancing scientific knowledge while ensuring the highest standards of animal care and welfare. You will be responsible for maintaining laboratory spaces, ensuring that essential research supplies and equipment are readily available to support ongoing studies. Your hands-on duties will include, but not limited to, restraining animals and collecting crucial research samples, such as blood, CSF, excrement, and airway secretions.
You'll also perform advanced imaging techniques like radiography, ultrasound (including echocardiograms), fluoroscopy, and MRI. Following study protocols, you will participate in animal dosing and administer medications through various routes, ensuring precise and ethical treatment. Additionally, you'll prepare for and collect tissue samples at the end of the in-life phase for histopathology, biodistribution, and immunology assays.
This role requires strict adherence to local, state, and federal regulations, including USDA, Animal Welfare Act, FDA and DEA ensuring compliance with the highest standards in laboratory animal care and use. Your contributions will be integral to the success of pioneering research efforts.
Employees in this position will participate in an occupational safety and health program which requires tuberculin testing and potentially required immunizations. Weekend and holiday work are a requirement of this position, and occasional overtime hours may be required. Franklin Biolabs is a team-based organization which requires the candidate to interact with various staff members across multiple functions within the animal care and research programs. RAs are expected to independently perform duties as described and maintain individual responsibilities with minimal direct oversight.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in related field
- 3-5 years' experience in technical procedures to collect research samples as requested by study protocol including but not limited to blood, cerebrospinal fluid, excrement, airway secretions. You will perform image acquisition via radiographs, ultrasound (including echocardiograms), fluoroscopy, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
- AALAS certification a plus
- Team-based and flexible approach to the work environment
- Ability to maintain databases and inventory logs
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
