Position Summary:
As assistant professor of engineering, this faculty member is responsible for teaching and other academics-related efforts within the Department of Mathematics, Engineering, and Computer Sciences. These responsibilities are to be done in alignment with the mission of FHU, which is to help students develop their God-given talents for His glory by empowering them with an education that integrates Christian faith, scholarship, and service.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teaches full-time as assigned within the Department of Mathematics, Engineering, and Computer Science.
- Develops and teaches new undergraduate classes within the engineering program.
- Serves as an academic advisor for engineering majors.
- Participates in the development of new programs and assessment of existing programs within the Department of Mathematics, Engineering, and Computer Sciences.
- Serves on university committees as assigned.
- Attends daily Chapel.
- May also assist with student projects in the FHU Makerspace.
- Participates in university recruitment activities aligned with the department.
This job description shall include, but is not necessarily limited to, the above duties. This position may temporarily perform other duties assigned to maintain operations and services.
Requirements
Requirements:
- Masters in an engineering discipline required; PhD in an engineering discipline preferred. Specific discipline will weigh in the final selection to best align with strategic plans for the development of FHU's engineering program.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to constructively collaborate with colleagues.
- Experience teaching is preferred.
- Ability to teach within one or more of the following areas preferred:
- Capstone Engineering - project management
- Electrical or Computer Engineering
- Physics (General and Calculus-Based)
- First-year engineering experience (Introduction to Engineering, Engineering Graphics)
- Hands-on experience with STEM projects is preferred.
