Purpose of the Position:
The Director of Nursing is responsible for the leadership, supervision, and overall management of the Simpson Health Center (SHC). Assures that all neighborhood programs and services are operated in a manner that delivers highest levels of resident satisfaction, life enrichment and quality of life. Be consistent with federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations. Operate in a financially prudent manner that meets or exceeds the annual budget adopted by the Board of Directors.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
·Plans, develops, organizes and directs delivery of health services in the Simpson Health Center.
·Responsible for the leadership and supervision of the coordinators, leads, ADON, skilled coordinator, MDS/RNP coordinator and the staff development coordinator. Participates in the facility's personnel process when necessary; this may include but is not limited to hiring, onboarding, training, development, goal setting, evaluations, terminating employment, disciplinary hearings and grievance hearings.
·Work effectively with SHC Administrator and other key staff to ensure services and programs are operated to maximize resident satisfaction and in compliance with federal, state, local regulations, and facility policies and procedures.
·Collaborate with the SHC Administrator in identification of clinical quality improvement opportunities, plan implementation, and review of policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure quality clinical outcomes, minimize survey deficiencies, and provide high level of resident and physician satisfaction. This includes required investigations in the SHC and implementation of plans of corrections.
·Develop and maintain written policies and procedures that govern the operation of the facility, as directed by the Administrator.
·Assure that all employees, visitors, and the general public follow established policies and take action to correct violations.
·Serve on and participate in various committees of Friendship Haven, as required.
·Participate in the on-call rotation with the administrative staff of the Simpson Health Center.
·Make written and oral reports/recommendations to the Administrator, as necessary, concerning the operation of the nursing team.
·In collaboration with Administrator, prepare budget to implement organizational objectives, monitors expenses, and initiates necessary budget adjustments for assigned areas of responsibility.
·Develop, maintain and periodically update written policies and procedures that govern the day-to-day functions of the nursing department such as the nurse nitty gritty book, QA & QAPI.
·Collaborate with the facility leadership to develop, implement and evaluate the annual infection prevention goals and action plan.
·Establish a facility-wide system for the prevention, identification, investigation and control of infections of residents, staff and visitors, including surveillance designed to identify possible communicable disease or infections before thy spread.
·Conduct outbreak investigations.
·Maintain a system for reporting possible incidents of communicable diseases to local, state or national agencies, as required.
·Oversee the antibiotic stewardship program and monitor residents’ antibiotic use.
·Assess the need for, develop and implement written polices and procedures for infection control, including those for standard precautions, and for transmission-based precautions, including when these should be used, the duration of use and the type of precautions needed for a particular infection or organism.
·Enforce policies prohibiting staff with communicable diseases or infected skin lesions from direct contact with residents and their food and enforce hand hygiene policies consistent with accepted standards of practice.
·Maintain current knowledge of federal, state and local regulations and ensure that the facility leaders are informed of appropriate issues; understand and comply with infection control, safety and OSHA procedures and regulations.
·Conduct yearly TB campus assessment.
·Obtain needed Infection Preventionist education per federal guidelines.
·Assume other responsibilities as directed.

Minimum Requirements:
·Licensure: RN with a license in good standing in the state of Iowa.
·Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in long term care, assisted living or equivalent experience.
·CPR Certification or ability to obtain certification.
