Job Description
Perform welding work utilizing Railtech Boutet or Orgo-Thermit Thermite Welding Processes. Properly maintain equipment and follow all company and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) policies and procedures. Maintain valid driver's license, CDL preferred and medical card to operate heavy vehicles. Perform quality work with limited supervision on time and on budget.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA).
- Basic track work duties; spiking, anchoring and surfacing
- Examines work pieces for defects and measures work pieces to ensure conformance with specifications.
- Performs routine preventive maintenance on small and large industrial equipment.
- Detects faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notifies supervisors.
- Operates equipment per safety policies, rules and regulations.
- Inspects equipment, diagnoses problems and notifies supervisor of the need to the repair equipment.
- Keeps records and prepares reports of maintenance work and cost of work.
- Inspect all equipment daily to ensure proper functionality.
- Perform grinding tasks using power and hand tools.
- Clean work pieces to remove impurities, such as slag, rust and grease.
- Inspect weld after grinding to check for hairline cracks or any visible defects.
- Operate heavy duty trucks to carry equipment to and from the work site.
Physical Requirements:
Mobility to participate in frequent travel to and from the project location; ability to operate heavy equipment; lifting of up to 100 pounds in the performance of duties. Agility to navigate into confined spaces if necessary.
Environmental Conditions:
Performs duties in multiple environments including outside construction project settings, in and around moving vehicles and equipment. Exposure to weather elements; must wear appropriate PPE required for the project site.
Qualifications:
- Must have documented experience and proficiency welding in a railroad construction environment.
- Possess a current driver's license, CDL preferred and DOT medical card.
- Extensive travel is required.
- Must pass drug screen including urine and hair screen.
- Must pass criminal background check.
- May be asked to pass practical skills assessment.
