Overview

We are currently hiring a Solder Assember. This position performs hand soldering of surface mount and through-hole components on PC boards for the manufacture of the company’s product. This position understands and applies soldering techniques per IPC-610/620 and manufacturing process principals in an electro-mechanical assembly environment. This role requires the ability to work from technical drawings and assembly instructions, using a variety of solder types with surface mount and through-hole components, including wiring on PC boards. This position also performs mechanical assembly using hand tools, such as torque wrenches, socket wrenches, screwdrivers, crimp tools, and limited power tools to assemble various products.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Complete final component attachment to PCBA’s (70% of time spent)

  • Install surface mount and/or through hole components onto PC boards following the bill of materials (BOM) and engineering drawings
  • Checks and inspects all work performed
  • Updates and communicates progress and any complications encountered to all appropriate personnel.
  • Communicates shortages to the Material Group
  • Provides assistance and training to less experienced Solder Assemblers and/or on other small assemblies

Support rework of PCBA’s (20% of time spent)

  • Rework PC boards per Rework (RW) or DCR instructions
  • Pull materials from stock to complete Rework or DCR
  • Install missing components from vendors
  • Assist other departments as needed

Support area organization (10% of time spent)

  • Build cable assemblies per drawing
  • Perform monthly housekeeping tasks
  • Empty trash cans and cardboard bins from common areas
  • Complete other task not stated in the job description assigned by Group Leader, Production Manager, and Operational Manager
  • Perform monthly torque wrench(es) verification

Safety Responsibilities

  • Support safety goals established by the Company
  • Follow all safety rules
  • Complete all required safety training
  • Cooperate with any safety inspections that are performed
  • Report unsafe working conditions to supervisor or safety committee
  • Wear required PPE
  • Use, store, and maintain tools and equipment properly
  • Report all incidents/accidents, no matter how minor they may seem
  • Comply with all current local, state, and federal environmental regulations
  • Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with company and OSHA standards

Performs other duties or special projects as required or as assigned by a supervisor

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Educational/Training/Certification Requirement: 

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent

Experience:

  • 3-5 years of solder experience in a manufacturing environment
  • 3-5 years of experience with soldering fine pitch components, including multi-lead IC packages, up to 120 leads
  • Experience with led free soldering is required
  • Surface mount experience is required
  • Experience with bills of materials in order to complete manufactured assemblies is required

Preferred Education and Experience: 

  • 2 or more years in vocational training in electronics
  • Electro-mechanical assembly experience
  • Comprehension of engineering drawings
  • IPC610 Certification - modules 1-8
  • IPC620 Certification – modules 1-8

Licenses/Certifications: 

  • IPC610 Certification - module 1 is required (Company sponsored training every 2 years)
  • IPC620 Certification - module 1 is required (Company sponsored training every 2 years)
  • IPC610 Certification- modules 1-8 is preferred
  • IPC 620 – modules 1-8 is preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge:  

  • Broad Knowledge of Operational Procedures pertaining to manufacturing process flow and the basic requirements to assemble compliant products per the defined Company criteria
  • RoHS compliance
  • Advanced knowledge of Electro-Static Discharge (ESD)
  • Advanced knowledge of electronic components 

Skills:

  • Fine manipulation
  • Hand and eye coordination
  • Attention to detail
  • Advanced skill using basic hand tools, torque tools, crimp tools, battery tools, pneumatic powered tools, air operated hand tools, de-soldering tools
  • Intermediate ability to read and follow electrical schematics
  • Intermediate computer skills utilizing MS Office and ERP Software
  • Advanced skill to solder under a microscope, including fine-pitched
  • Intermediate skills with multimeter and mechanical measuring tools 

Abilities:

  • Intermediate ability to read and follow electrical schematics
  • Ability to comprehend the Bill of material list
  • Ability to listen and follow instructions
  • Ability to work well with others
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Ability to multitask in a fast paced and changing environment
  • Ability to learn quickly
  • Ability to work with little to no supervision
  • Ability to utilize good judgement in application and/or mechanical skills that are required
  • Ability to communicate information that requires moderate explanation or interpretation
