Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree in criminology, criminal justice or a related field required; supplemented by 7 years of progressive experience in law enforcement or investigative field to include lead or supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license. Must possess and maintain Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Certification.
Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all county or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position. Requires knowledge of federal, state, and local criminal laws and statutes, court rules and procedures, and methods and techniques used to conduct criminal investigations. Requires knowledge of the geography of the metropolitan Atlanta area. Requires knowledge and skill in management and supervisory practices and principles. Requires interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interview, interrogate, persuade, or otherwise interact in the course of investigative work.

Purpose of Classification:
The purpose of this classification is to investigate and oversee investigations as assigned by the departments within Fulton County Government.
Essential Functions:

Supervises Investigations in various Criminal Investigative Units and or as directed by appointing authority of the assigned departments within Fulton County by assigning each Investigator work assignments and tasks of criminal cases to investigate and prepare for criminal trial (i.e. Locating witnesses, gathering evidence, conducting surveillance, subpoenaing witnesses and victims for trial, etc.).
Serves as Acting Chief of Investigations when the Chief of Investigations is out of office (i.e. handling Chief of Investigations daily tasks to include attending law enforcement and/or critical meetings, supervising criminal investigative units to make sure all investigative tasks and assignments are complete. Serve as second-in-command as designated by the appointing authority of the assigned department within Fulton County.
Locates all extremely difficult witnesses or victims for trial that either refuse to cooperate or are unable to be found by the assigned investigator, including locating serious offense defendants who failed to appear in court on their criminal charges or as designated/directed by the appointing authority of the assigned department.
Serves as the assigned department’s direct liaison to US Marshal, FBI, Secret Service agencies and other agencies depending on the appointing authority of the assigned department.
Handles investigation of high profile cases, and provides daily updates on Criminal Investigations and other work assignments directed by the appointing authority of the assigned department.
Serves on call 24 hours to handle office emergencies and/or matters requested by the Direct Attorney or Chief of Investigations as directed by the appointing authority of the assigned department of Fulton County (i.e. witness/victim relocation due to threats, uncooperative witness refusing to come to trial, assistance with law enforcement agencies for criminal cases with unusual circumstances).
Compiles reports as directed; receives and reviews weekly reports from all subordinate Investigators.
