Success Profile:
The Technical Designer manages the product lifecycle from sketch through pre-production to production fit approval. Works collaboratively with Design and Production teams, develops initial Tech Packs, follows production calendar to meet all established deadlines, ensures garment construction meets brand quality standards and grading proportions are consistent throughout size ranges - across all sportswear product categories (tops and bottoms) and fabrications – woven, cut & sew knits, sweaters.

Brand/Product Focus: Donna Karan Sportswear Division | Women’s and Men’s
Location (On-Site): New York City, Midtown Manhattan – Fashion District
Key Accountabilities:
- Product Lifecycle Management: Manage product life cycle from sketch through pre-production through production fit approval; Understand manufacturing process; Collaborate with Design and Production on apparel development in order to create cost effective styles
- Technical Specification: Generate computerized technical specification packages; Review and evaluate samples for spec, pattern, shape, and construction; Consult with Designers to work through complicated garment construction to establish fit; Identifies and resolves fit issues earlier in the development process
- Systems: Use PLM systems; Excel; Adobe Illustrator; Gerber Yunique PLM or equivalent
- Communication: Communicate with overseas offices and vendors to identify and resolve issues with garment construction and production; Create and manages WIP (Work In Progress) report for development tracking and garment delivery
- Fitting and Specification: Schedule, prepare for, attend and assist with Fit; Measure garments and organize for Fitting; Coordinate Fitting schedule; Create initial spec to final full graded spec; Analyze, evaluate and adjust fit with attention to detail and precision; Ensure all specs and fit comments with detailed drawings and sketches are conveyed to vendors accurately and on time;
- Corrections and Approvals: Utilize digital photos, technical sketches, detailed instructions and comments from Fitting to communicate corrections; Approve garment for production or reject sample and schedule follow-up Fitting
- Testing: Request Factory and Mill testing for fabric and garments; Verify fabric quality; Confirm product care and content
- Reporting: Create and manage WIP (Work In Progress) reports to coordinate weekly production and delivery schedule for Fittings and Fit Samples
Education and Experience:
- Four (4) or more years of Technical Design experience in a SKU intensive environment, required
- College degree, or equivalent professional work experience, required
Skills and Behaviors:
- Proven expertise in apparel fitting, specs and patterns
- Working knowledge of PLM, Illustrator, Photoshop, PowerPoint, Excel
- Strong visual, verbal, and multi-tasking skills with critical attention to detail
- Confident, engaging verbal and written communication skills
- Motivated to work in a high energy environment at the speed of fashion with ever-changing priorities
- Ability to work independently and work to meet multiple deadlines
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with other departments as well as vendors and other overseas offices
The pay range for this position is: $75,000 per year -$100,000 per year
