The Gadsden County Board of County Commissioners has an immediate need for qualified applicants for Division Chief within the County’s Emergency Services Division. Incumbent will work directly under the Deputy Chief, providing both advanced and basic pre-hospital medical care to the citizens and guest of Gadsden County. The county offers all full-time staff a county benefit plan along with a retirement plan within the Florida Retirement System (FRS).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following: Responds to requests to visit patients that will benefit from this program. Maintains records, conducts special studies and prepares reports. Manages EMS and Fire training programs for the Fire Rescue Department. Assists the Chief and Deputy Chief of coordinating and managing the EMS service delivery. Serves as the Safety/Infection Control Officer for the Department and technical advisor to other County departments and agencies regarding communicable disease policies and worker exposure. Trains EMT’s and Paramedics in EMS skills and protocols. Addresses civic and other groups regarding the activities and programs of Fire Rescue to explain and promote public understanding of its responsibilities. Works with different private and community healthcare partners about the community paramedicine program. Assists Chief and Deputy Chief with maintaining the EMS Quality Improvement Program. Participates in field observation of calls as needed. Conducts post-hospital release follow-up care including, but not limited to, monitoring medication, home safety assessments, and checking vital signs, to patients and residents/visitors of Gadsden County with the purpose of providing information about existing services through public health and other agencies that provide palliative service assistance as well as other types of support. Establishes partnerships with various support agencies that provide assistance to residents of Gadsden County with the purpose of improving overall health of the community of everyday living assistance. Participates in public education and community outreach programs. Functions as a member of the Incident Command System as needed/qualified at Fire, Rescue, EMS, and Hazardous Material Incidents. Responds to emergency calls as a mobile medical unit attendant or driver, performs necessary rescue work in accordance with established protocols for Basic and Advanced Life Support; administers necessary emergency medical care requiring the use of suction units, immobilization equipment, intravenous infusions, syringes and medications, and cardiac monitors/defibrillator/pacers, and performance of intubation/advanced airway management. Responds to non-emergency calls, such as requests to transport patients from hospitals to their homes or from a local medical facility to a specialized medical center. Participates in a continuous training program to improve competence in medical clinical work and in ambulance service and operation; studies street and road patterns and networks of the County in order that future runs may be made with minimum difficulty and delay. Maintains and ensures the operational readiness of departmental vehicles and equipment; performs preventive maintenance tasks and scheduled testing of all firefighting apparatus; makes repairs to equipment and vehicles when necessary; and maintains fixed asses’ inventory. Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports; maintains vehicle and equipment maintenance records; prepares incident fire reports, training reports, and hydrant inspection reports. Performs fire station and grounds maintenance including sweeping, vacuuming, mowing grass, washing vehicle, etc. Performs other related work as required. During emergencies, natural disasters, local state of emergencies, and emergency operations center activations, this position is considered essential and will be required to be present before, during, and after the events.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have high school diploma or its equivalent and some experience beyond obtaining the required certifications for the position; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Certification as a Paramedic by the State of Florida. Certification as a Firefighter 2 by the State of Florida Certification in CPR ,ACLS, PALS, ICS 100,200,300,400,700,800. Must have a valid Florida driver’s

license. Must have Evidence of a 16-hour Emergency Vehicle Operator Course Completion. Must be able to obtain Specialty Certification CP-C certification within three (3) years. Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Fire/EMS management required. An associate degree is preferred but a comparable amount of training and/or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
