Come Build Your Career Under OUR Roof Job Description: SECTION I: GENERAL OVERVIEW AND REPORTING The Quality Control (QC) Supervisor is a salaried-exempt supervisory leadership role in the QC Group. The QC Supervisor is responsible for managing all QC personnel and the day to day operation of the QC Laboratory. The QC Supervisor is expected to develop and maintain expert knowledge in production raw materials, manufacturing processes, test methods, and product characteristics. The position is expected to be hands-on in laboratory operations as needed and to serve as a backup for QC Technicians as necessary to cover shifts due to PTO, illness, or business needs. The QC Supervisor will report directly to the Siplast Director of Research and Development and is expected to work closely with the plant Technical Services Manager and other operations staff on a daily basis. The position is primarily a day shift position, though occasional night or weekend work may be required based upon business needs. SECTION II: DUTIES AND AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY The primary duties of the Quality Control Supervisor consist of, but are not limited to, the following: ○ Demonstrate accountability to ensure that: ○ QC personnel follow all EHS regulations and policies (PPE usage, lock out tag out procedures, hot work permits, chemical and waste handling, etc.), including weekly safety audits of plant eyewash stations, safety showers, and fume hoods ○ test and measurement equipment related to lab functions are properly functioning and calibrated ○ QC personnel are trained and follow specified test methods and sample procedures ○ all raw materials meet specifications prior to use as evidenced by testing and/or COA review ○ all products meet specifications and have completed COA’s issued prior to release to saleable inventory ○ all product that is out-of-specification, work-in-progress, or on-hold for further testing is properly marked / red-tagged and physically segregated from saleable inventory ○ all test results, calibration records, Certificates of Analysis, and other quality-related data and documents are properly recorded, communicated, and available for audit ○ QC work areas are neat, clean, and organized as appropriate to the tasks and in accordance with plant 5S standards ○ Direct and supervise QC personnel in performance of essential QC tasks and perform related administrative functions including: ○ sample, evaluate, and test raw materials, intermediates, and finished products as appropriate ○ document test results, enter Statistical Process Control (SPC) data into Braincube and/or WinSPC, and issue Certificates Of Analysis ○ manage raw material non-conformances via quality complaints to suppliers and follow-up to ensure security of supply of in-specification raw materials; conduct supplier audits as required by the GAF quality management system ○ schedule personnel to ensure timely coverage of raw material receiving / testing and to support production needs ○ recruit, interview, and train new QC employees or transfers ○ manage QC team and individual performance through coaching/development including providing regular formal and informal feedback (both positive and negative as appropriate), with proper documentation of any appropriate rewards/recognitions or disciplinary actions through HR and management ○ maintain stakeholder relationships and communication with internal and external customers ○ maintain quality documentation and conduct internal audits as required under Siplast ISO 9001:2015 and GAF quality management systems and business needs; complete weekly quality audits and bi-monthly warehouse audits to verify compliance with product labeling and segregation of out-of-specification and quality-hold product and raw materials. ○ support 3rd party agency (FM, UL, FBC, et al.) audits as required ○ manage product quality-related customer complaints and follow-up with operations staff and other stakeholders to identify corrective actions and verify implementation and effectiveness, with communication to relevant stakeholders ○ review and update product manufacturing documentation, specifications, Blend Notebook, and related information on a regular basis ○ support plant tours, customer training events, and internal training events in coordination with R&D, operations, and other corporate departments ○ Promptly communicate quality issues to operations staff and appropriate stakeholders and recommend corrective action(s). Provide regular highlights for QC including status of pending issues, raw material and production trends, etc. to appropriate stakeholders. ● Develop and maintain expert knowledge of production raw materials and interact with suppliers and vendors regarding quality deviations, trends, and specifications of current and alternative materials and sources. ● Work closely with R&D and Operations to support qualification of alternative sources and materials through production trials and QC test method development as needed. ● Develop and maintain expert knowledge of intermediates and finished products including relevant specifications and test methods. SECTION III: NECESSARY SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES ● High school diploma or GED equivalent required ● Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and an insurable driving record ● Ability to maintain a company credit card for business-related travel and expenses ● Citizenship or legal status to work in the United States without company sponsorship ● A.A. or B.S. / B.A. in a lab-based scientific field with 5 or 2 years related experience, respectively; OR 7 years directly related QA or QC experience. ● Comprehensive knowledge and hands-on experience with QC laboratory equipment and test methods ● Good interpersonal and communication skills for supervisory duties as well as communication with stakeholders in the organization, customers, and external parties ● Demonstrated people leadership skills; prefer minimum 2 years supervisory experience in a laboratory or manufacturing environment ● Familiarity with asphaltic-based roofing products, related product specifications, and test methods; prefer minimum 3 years experience with roofing, building materials, and related testing ● Basic knowledge of roll-to-roll operations and batch mixing operations ● Demonstrated knowledge of chemical hygiene, industrial hygiene, and manufacturing process safety requirements ● Experience with ISO 9001, GAF QMS, or similar Quality Management Systems ● Demonstrated good judgment, trouble-shooting acumen, and conflict/problem resolution skills ● Proficiency with relevant software platforms (Google Suite, MS-Office programs, Lotus Notes, databases, Statistical Process Control systems, etc.) SECTION IV: PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS ● Must meet physical requirements to work in confined spaces as required by OSHA ● Must be able to lift 50 pounds regularly, and up to 100 pounds occasionally ● Must be able to climb ladders and stairs ● Must be able to work standing ● Visual acuity to inspect products, read documents, computer screens, etc. ● Auditory acuity to understand normal conversation in person and on phone and to hear equipment and safety alarms ● Manual dexterity to operate equipment, manipulate samples, perform data entry, etc ● Must have the ability to work in plant/warehouse environment (including high/low temperatures, dust, humidity, etc) ● Must be able to wear dust mask and/or air-purifying respirator as needed Note: The statements herein are intended to describe the general nature and levels of the work performed by employees, but are not a complete list of responsibilities, duties, and skills required of personnel so classified.
