What are the responsibilities and job description for the YMCA Cross Country Ski Instructor position at Gallatin Valley YMCA?
The instructor is responsible for creating a safe and fun environment for children aged 5-10 who are learning the skill of Cross-Country Skiing. The instructor will create plans for each program date. These plans must include a skill to learn, how you will teach the skill, and at least one activity.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Creating and implementing plans to educate the participants about cross-country skiing.
- Assists in developing, organizing, and implementing a high-quality sports program.
- Supervise a group of children with a creative, fun, and positive attitude.
- Complete all training deemed necessary by the Gallatin Valley YMCA to perform well in this job and receive all certificates necessary for this job.
- Show up to scheduled programs on time and stay throughout the shift unless prior arrangements have been made with the Sports & Recreation Director.
- Adhere to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
- Attends staff meetings and training as scheduled.
- Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge and experience participating and/or teaching cross-country skiing.
- Background and experience in sports, physical education, and/or exercise science.
- Create positive interactions and relationships with youth, families, and coaches; create an environment of active listening, and a strong understanding of cultural competency, diversity, and inclusion.
- Must be in reasonably good physical condition and able to work extended periods of time on his/her feet.
- At least 18 years of age.
- CPR, First Aid, AED certifications, and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
Must be able to pass a Criminal Background Check.
SCHEDULE:
Must be able to work Saturdays between 8 am and 2 pm in the months of January, February, and March.
