The Senior Manager, Quality is responsible for providing direction and guidance to the Armor Quality team at Galvion. This role will have a lead in ensuring Galvion provides world-class quality products to our customers through ensuring robust quality processes and a continuous improvement mindset throughout Galvion.

SPECIFIC ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Leadership for Quality Team members throughout Galvion

  • Work closely with Plant QC Managers to provide mentorship and guidance on QA/QC processes and best practices.
  • Train and develop team members as needed.
  • Make recommendations and help the Plant QC Managers to implement changes regarding their QC teams’ organization structure, responsibilities, and methodologies.
  • In concert with the Plant QC Managers, provide feedback, improvement plans, and performance reviews for all team members.

Leadership of the Quality Management System

  • Overall responsibility and accountability for Galvion’s Quality Management System and its further development at all Galvion locations, ensuring that registration to ISO 9001:2015 is maintained.
  • Coordinate and manage all external audits, including 3rd Party audits and Customer audits.
  • Enhance and oversee a cross-functional internal auditing team for all Galvion locations.
  • Lead and facilitate all QMS management review meetings, ensuring that key process metrics are reviewed with senior leadership and acted on.
  • Provide implementation leadership for any additional management system standards (e.g. ISO 14001) deemed to be advantageous to Galvion.
  • Be the leading voice to push forward key quality concepts and methods throughout Galvion to include root-cause analysis, risk-based decision making, the Seven Basic Tools of Quality, statistical process control, problem solving, etc.
  • Overall responsibility for the corrective and preventive action system to include: ensuring evidence-based root-cause analysis, supplier/customer corrective action requests, material review board responses, verified effectiveness, and deployment of actions across all similar product lines.
  • Ensure and support the Quality groups at each manufacturing site to guarantee the ongoing use, effectiveness, and improvement of the QMS and product-specific QA procedures.

Customer-focused Quality Management

  • Review, co-develop, and monitor the quality control processes required for program level customer orders in accordance with program and contract requirements.
  • Ensure that customer-specific requirements are understood, negotiated (where needed), and deployed throughout Galvion (and the supply chain where applicable).
  • Work directly with customers as needed to address concerns and implement corrective and preventive actions to resolve quality issues.
  • Establish a thorough understanding of customer specifications and ensure that test and product reports are reviewed with respect to the specifications and approved prior to release.

Supplier Quality Management

  • Work with Product Engineering group to establish Supplier Control Plans and work directly with suppliers to ensure acceptance and conformance to stated requirements.
  • Work with supply chain management group to coordinate supplier corrective and preventive actions and provide input to supplier quarterly reviews, evaluation surveys, and the approved supplier list.
  • Ensure urgent containment and action from suppliers when non-conforming product is received.

Internal Quality Leadership

  • Provide consistent quality decisions in line with the requirements of the customer and the best interests of Galvion.
  • Ensure that fundamental systems are implemented and effective; including control of non-conforming product (MRB oversight), change management, and process control plan development.

Data Analysis & Project Management

  • Create, enhance, and manage processes for effective collection and maintenance of QC data and documented information.
  • In concert with each facility, analyze QC data and identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Work closely with each facility to create and manage reporting tools and visual methods for relaying quality performance to all levels of Galvion’s organization.
  • Lead, participate in, and sponsor specific projects in accordance with Galvion’s goals and business objectives.

Continuous Improvement

  • Be a key driver to push forward Continuous Improvement initiatives and a CI mindset throughout Galvion.
  • Based on results from NC reports, CARs, and data analyses; determine opportunities for improvement and work with other groups to drive continuous improvement activities.
  • Lead continuous improvement, business process redesigns and other problem-solving activities as needed.
  • Train other Galvion employees in the use of continuous improvement tools.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in an engineering, operations or quality curriculum required, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • 8-10 years of experience in a quality role
  • 5 years of experience working in a discrete manufacturing environment
  • 5 years of leadership experience in a quality or manufacturing role
  • A Certified Quality Auditor (CQA) and/or Certified Quality Manager (CQM) designation preferred.
  • Experience working in a specification-driven environment such as defense or aerospace strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge in manufacturing and testing composite materials and/or injection molding is a plus.
  • An understanding of Lean manufacturing basics a plus.
  • Ability to review and understand 2D/3D drawings and specifications is required.
  • Firm understanding of ISO standards and quality management systems a must.
  • Demonstrable experience in leading continuous improvement activities at all company levels is required.
  • Demonstrable ability to lead multi-department activities is required.
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have effective project management skills.
  • Ability to deliver high-quality results within corporate goals in a timely manner.
  • Open-minded, willing to learn new things, and innovative in thinking and problem solving.
  • Responsiveness to external and internal customers and a can-do, positive attitude are a must.
  • Proficient in computer use with Microsoft and other products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Project, statistical software, etc.).

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Mainly office environment with interaction with manufacturing.
  • Frequent travel in North America required to all manufacturing facilities.
