Position Overview: GCCS is seeking a dedicated and experienced ESL Teacher to fill in temporarily during our regular ESL Teacher’s maternity leave. In this part-time role, you will provide ESL instruction to approximately 60 K-5th grade students. You will focus on helping students develop their English language skills through engaging and differentiated instruction, while ensuring they are supported in both their academic and social-emotional growth. This is a hands-on teaching role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide ESL instruction to small groups of K-5th grade students, focusing on developing speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills.
- Use effective, differentiated instructional strategies tailored to meet the needs of each student's language proficiency level.
- Foster a welcoming and inclusive classroom environment where students’ cultural backgrounds are celebrated.
- Collaborate with general education teachers to support ESL students in mainstream classrooms and ensure they succeed academically.
- Track and assess students’ progress in English language acquisition, adjusting instruction as needed.
- Communicate regularly with students and families in both English and Spanish, providing updates on progress and any areas of concern.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in ESL Education, Elementary Education, or a related field. (Master’s degree preferred).
- Minimum of 2 years of experience teaching ESL, preferably with elementary-age students.
- Fluency in both English and Spanish is required.
- Strong knowledge of second language acquisition and best practices for ESL instruction.
- Experience with creating and adapting curriculum and lessons for diverse learners.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills, with familiarity in using educational tools like Google Docs and Sheets.
- A passion for working with children and supporting their academic and personal growth.
- Ability to create an engaging, inclusive, and nurturing classroom environment.
