Position Summary
The Staff Accountant is responsible for performing routine accounting activities and supporting the Finance team. Tasks include recording financial transactions, maintaining general ledger accounts, reconciling bank statements, preparing financial statements, and assisting with month-end and year-end closing processes. The accountant will ensure the accuracy and compliance of the organization’s financial records while reporting to the Controller. This will also include the coordination of various activities for grant accounting and support as it relates to voucher tracking, budgets and compliance. Must be organized, detail oriented, strong math aptitude, able to work accurately with numbers and possess knowledge of Excel and accounting software.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for day-to-day bookkeeping and financial reporting
- Record journal entries to record all business transactions
- Maintain general ledger and reconcile accounts
- Complete months-end and year-end close process to support financial reporting
- Process Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Cash receipts
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit card payments, and other transactions
- Update and maintain grant tool for accuracy and reconciliation to general ledger
- Support and maintain grant accounting for payroll allocations
- Prepare for submission of grant vouchers in a timely and accurate manner
- Communicate and coordinate with program staff to gather proper documentation for budgets and vouchers
- Support the Finance and Accounting teams with additional accounting projects as needed
Miscellaneous:
- Responsible for maintaining a physically and emotionally safe environment to further ensure proper youth supervision and managing conduct issues and incidents.
- Attends required staff meetings and trainings.
- Works with other staff to execute effective outreach, recruitment and retention strategies.
- Supports the mission of GCYC.
- Works collaboratively in a team setting serving the needs of youth.
- Is committed to the safety and development of all GCYC members.
- Takes on other duties as needed.
- Serves as a role model for youth and community.
- Abides by the employee handbook and established GCYC policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
- Recommended 2-3 years of experience.
- Competency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Organizational, verbal and written communication skills a must.
- Attention to detail, strong math aptitude, accuracy, and ability to multi-task.
Education & Skill Requirements:
- BS/BA in relevant field, Accounting or Business degree preferred
- Experience with grant accounting procedures and tools is preferred.
