What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mammography Technologist position at Gateway Community Health Center?
DESCRIPTION: Performs Breast Imaging procedures on patients as requested by a provider for the diagnosis of disease and injury in accordance with established Center protocols.
SUPERVISION: Directly supervised by the Chief Operating Officer.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires prolonged sitting, standing, lifting up to 50 pounds. Must be able to stand, stoop and lift and walk without restrictions.
FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs mammography tests and develops the results to produce quality breast images for radiologists.
- Evaluates patient history and provider orders to ensure appropriate procedures are performed.
- May assist providers in special procedures as needed to ensure that all procedures are performed to the standards of the Center.
- Processes Quality Control checks on systems in accordance with American College of Radiology, including notifying COO of maintenance needs to ensure equipment functions properly.
- Ensure all tasks provided and associated with patient care, patient administrative processes and related duties comply with all regulatory and accreditation standards including The Joint Commission and Center Operating Procedures.
- Maintains proper documentation on the Radiology Information System to track the procedures performed on each patient.
- Communicates and consults with patients informing them of procedures to be performed to ensure that patients are as comfortable as possible.
- Maintains a positive working relationship with employees, medical staff, patients and visitors to ensure efficient work processes.
- Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction.
- Makes recommendations to COO, implements and monitors results as appropriate in support of the overall goals of the Center.
- Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact the Mammography area.
- Develops effective internal controls that promote adherence to applicable state/federal laws, and the program requirements of accreditation agencies and federal, state, and private health plans.
- Seeks advice and guidance as necessary to ensure proper understanding.
- Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field of Mammography by attending seminars and maintaining ARRT certification and Texas State licensure.
- Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- A minimum of A.A.S. Degree from an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program is required.
- ARRT Advanced Certification in Mammography. Must obtain advanced certification in Mammography (M) within 12 months of employment is preferred.
- A OB/GYN, Abdomen, Breast, and Superficial Structures certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) is required.
- Experience of at least 2 years in the specified fields is required.
- Must have a current BLS certificate.
- Bilingual in English/Spanish is preferred.
