Gateway Post Acute-RN JOB DESCRIPTION : RN The NURSE Supervisor assesses resident care and manages facility employees in the provision of care and services according to professional standards of nursing practice, consistent with facility philosophy of care and county, state, and federal laws and regulations, as applicable, under the direction of the Director of Nursing.
Assists in the development and implements policy and procedures consistent with current law. REPORTING : This position is responsible to the Director of Nursing. QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS : Education : Graduate of an accredited school of nursing License : Current, active license as a Registered Nurse Work Experience : 1 year experience in long-term geriatric nursing care experience and / or training preferred Language Skills :
- Must be able to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical information, and to be easily understood through verbal communication in the English language.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :
Ensure that established post- mortem procedures are followed.
Ensure that an adequate supply of floor stock medications, supplies, and equipment is available.
Must be able to key information into computer systems to participate in employee performance evaluations, determine your shift's staffing requirements, and in making recommendations to the DON.
Inform nursing personnel of new admissions.
Provide direct nursing care as necessary.
Ensure that department personnel, residents, and visitors follow the department's established policies and procedures.
Report occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and hazardous chemicals in accordance with the facility's policies and procedures.
If qualified, start IVs, and obtain specimens for lab tests as necessary.
Make rounds with physicians.
Inspect the work area daily to ensure that they are maintained in a clean and safe manner.
Encourage the resident to participate in the development and review of his / her plan of care.
Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people within the facility.
Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing nursing practices.
Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
Attends various committee meetings as required or requested by Administrator or DON.
Maintains a liaison with the residents, their families, support departments, etc., to adequately plan for the residents' needs.
Assist in educational training programs.
Attend and participate in mandated state, OSHA, and CDC in-service training programs.
Is subject to frequent interruptions.
Works beyond normal working hours, weekends, and holidays when necessary.
Is subject to call-back during emergency conditions and other times as needed.
May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations! Other duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing PHYSICAL CAPACITIES : (With or Without the Aid of Mechanical Devices)! Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday. Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
Must meet the general health requirements set forth by this facility's policies, including an annual TB screening and physical examination.
Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
Requires infrequent lifting of weights up to 100 pounds with assistance.
Frequent pushing and pulling of carts! Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS : Inside work, normal temperatures, some noise, occasional fumes / odors, chemical exposure, and potential exposure to blood-borne pathogens.
This job cannot be performed without exposure to the stresses associated with an intimate, 24-hour skilled care environment that delivers care and services primarily to disabled and cognitively impaired residents in an aging population.
Examples of these stresses include but are not limited to : emergency health or safety response, weekend and holiday duty, unusual or impaired behavior by residents, family reactions to having a loved one in a nursing home, death and dying, oversight of state surveyors, ombudsmen and federal officials, presence of consultants and attorneys, and variable involvement of medical staff.

This position is a Mandated Reporter regarding the suspicion of elder abuse and may have access to Protected Health Information (PHI).
