Safety Coordinator

Position Overview
The Safety Coordinator (SC) at GCS-SIGAL will collaborate with management and field staff to develop, prepare, and implement safety policies and procedures.
Position Functions
- Regularly reference and cite the GCS-SIGAL Corporate Safety Plan.
- Assist project teams in creating site-specific safety plans.
- Assist project teams in safety related documentation requirements.
- Conduct site inspections, record observations, and make recommendations.
- Stop operations and activities that could harm employees or equipment.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules.
- Communicate expectations regarding employee adherence to safe work procedures.
- Provide field observations and suggestions regarding opportunities to prevent injuries and accidents, improve safety performance and lower insurance costs.
- Accept and evaluate employee safety concerns and suggestions, and work to correct potentially hazardous situations.
- Review safety reports and track safety related metrics to identify trends.
- Collaborate with insurance broker to mitigate safety related risks.
- Assure that safety signs and safety equipment are adequately supplied to assigned project sites.
- Ensure completion of required OSHA recordkeeping and reporting.
- Review safety training and recommend revisions, improvements, and updates.
- Recommend and help select training vendors.
- Ensure new employees receive proper training in safe work procedures, as well as new job assignments.
- Maintain accurate records of employee safety training and certifications.
- Aid in the investigation of job-related accidents, injuries, and illnesses, and work towards implementing procedures that may prevent future recurrence.
- Assist with : claims handling and their resolution; injuries and perform accident investigations and development of related reports.
- Assist in returning and monitoring the progress of injured employees as they perform modified duty on our projects.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
