Job Description
The Test & Evaluation (T&E) Assistant Engineer is responsible for supporting the Mechanical Engineering T&E department in successfully supporting the Ship Comprehensive Test Plan.
The successful candidate will perform duties that include, but are not limited to the following:
- Develop, witness, evaluate, submit, and maintain stage 2 installation and 3-7 operational Combat Systems tests involving Ordnance Handling, and Electronics/Communications Systems.
- Support Hull, Mechanical, Electrical, and Combat Systems testing during various ship activation periods, including sea trials.
- Provide test support to multiple ship programs.
- Research ECP's (change proposals) for impact to the test program.
- Work closely with manufacturing, ATT and Navy personnel throughout the development, execution, and approval cycle of the test program.
- Help resolve emergent test procedure issues on the deck plates.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of all T&E BMDA responsible documents.
Required/Preferred Education/Training
- Required
- Ability to obtain Secret and/or Top Secret Security Clearance.
- Preferred
- BIW Apprentice or 2 year technical degree in Marine Engineering.
Required/Preferred Experience
- Required
- 5 years in an engineering/manufacturing environment recommended.
- Significant experience in a shipyard test environment.
- Ability to interpret test requirements, and perform required calculations.
- Broad knowledge of general ship design, construction and test program processes.
- Demonstrated organizational and people skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge and effectiveness with Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to support temporary off shift or second shift tests and Sea Trials.
- Preferred
- Navy Combat Systems related or Shipboard Electrical experience.
- Prior experience with BIW system diagrams and Navy Ship Specifications.
- This position requires you to be able to obtain a government security clearance.
