General Description

The Production Assembler is responsible to productively assemble component parts according to work instructions and prints and accurately recording the transactions in GSM’s inventory system.

This job description is intended to be an overview of primary responsibilities for this position. All employees are charged with providing assistance in generally similar duties when management deems it necessary. Special projects and activities may also be created where employees’ talents can best be utilized. In addition, General Stamping & Metalworks is a growing organization responding to an ever-changing market. It is expected that tasks and requirements will change from time to time and employees will be asked to respond as needed and within reason.

Organizational Relationships and Authority

The Production Assembler reports directly to the department supervisor. There are no direct reports to this position.

Key Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of the Production Assembler is to ensure bill of material components are brought together in a safe, accurate, efficient manner according to work instructions and blue prints.

Other responsibilities may include:

  • Lifts component parts up to 10 pounds and hardware boxes up to 45 pounds
  • Joins component parts together by rotating nuts and screws
  • Packages assembled parts as required
  • Accurately and efficiently enters completed assembly counts into the ERP system
  • Safely uses small automatic hand tools to secure bolts
  • Labels finished product accurately
  • Keeps assembly areas free of debris and empties trash bins as trained
  • Counts work in process inventory locations
  • Reports inventory shortages to supervisor

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly or occasionally required to meet the following physical demands:

  • Lift parts approximately 10 pounds repetitively
  • Lift boxes and parts approximately 45 pounds constantly throughout the day
  • Must be able to reach into tight spaces to insert screws and tighten bolts
  • Must be able to work at a fast pace without undue stress or fatigue
  • Able to speak clearly and understandably, with a pleasant tone of voice and manner
  • Ability to hear within a range that enables normal telephone communication
  • Able to see a computer screen within reasonable reading distance without strain
  • Able to type at a keyboard without bodily or psychological discomfort most of the working day
  • Ability to ambulate around the manufacturing floor comfortably in order to fulfill tasks required within department and break areas
  • Able to work extended shifts on occasion
  • Bending at waist and neck
  • Working at shoulder height
